Summary/Objective
KMS Solutions is seeking a full time General Vessel Assistant to join a highly motivated team of mariners and technicians providing operational and technical support to the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in Newport RI. This select team is responsible for providing at sea testing and mission support to NUWC. Our multi-disciplinary team is heavily involved assisting the U.S. Navy in the testing of new undersea weapons systems. This position is a valuable team member of the Narragansett Bay Testing Facility (NBTF).

Essential Functions
- Perform as the Master of a vessel required to engage in towing operations.
- Ability and comfort with operating vessels in tight quarters and making approaches on other vessels.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, self-motivation, team player.
- Ability to perform basic vessel maintenance procedures.
- Act as a crewmember aboard an operating research vessel.
- Demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, self-motivation and a team player.
- Load and unload heavy equipment in a marine environment.
Required Education and Experience:
- At least three years of the following criteria must be satisfied for an applicant to be considered for the position.
- Experience working in the marine field.
- Must carry a USCG Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC), Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels (OUPV) or greater.
- Must carry a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC).
- Must carry a USCG Medical Certificate.
- A SECRET clearance is required for this position; candidates must be eligible to obtain a SECRET clearance.
- Ability to perform in all-weather environments.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Current secret clearance.
- USCG Master of 100Ton vessel MMC.
- USCG Towing endorsement on MMC.
- Experience maintaining marine systems.
- Mechanical experience with outboards and marine diesel engines.
- Experience in operating a vessel with twin jet propulsion.
- Category 3 crane certification.
- Experience operating a forklift.
Competencies:
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, to all levels of the customer and company leadership.
- Capable of effectively working and problem solving in both independent and team environments.
- Good operational risk management/assessment capabilities
- Thoroughness and attention to detail
