Position Overview
The SME Cost Analyst provides expert financial and cost analysis support for research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) tasks within AFRL/RQ. This role focuses on evaluating trade-offs between concepts, establishing affordability, assisting in requirements definition, and supporting decision-makers with cost-related insights to optimize operational capabilities.

The SME Cost Analyst provides expert financial and cost analysis support for research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) tasks within AFRL/RQ. This role focuses on evaluating trade-offs between concepts, establishing affordability, assisting in requirements definition, and supporting decision-makers with cost-related insights to optimize operational capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a recognized expert in cost estimating, analysis, and Earned Value Management (EVM) for AFRL/RQ.
- Facilitate time-sensitive analytical projects and provide technical and cost guidance to RQ and HQ leadership.
- Lead design, development, and adaptation of mathematical, statistical, econometric, and scientific methods for cost modeling and analysis.
- Conduct a broad range of cost and operations research analyses involving unique problems, innovative techniques, and emerging technologies.
- Develop scientific cost models and computer programs based on rigorous scientific inquiry.
- Train and mentor junior analysts in cost modeling and analytical frameworks to support Directorate projects and studies.
- Attend and actively participate in meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to program planning, advanced technology, and support system concepts.
- Provide expert-level cost estimate models for DoD acquisition programs and clearly present findings to senior leadership.
- Work on classified cost estimates requiring strict adherence to security protocols.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in DoD acquisition cost analysis and Earned Value Management.
- Experience developing and maintaining cost estimate models for classified programs.
- Ability to communicate complex cost data succinctly to senior leadership.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret / SCI / SAP clearance.
- Strong analytical, leadership, and mentoring skills.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field required.
