USmax Corporation is seeking an Action Officer to support a Department of Health and Human Services customer. The successful candidate will possess experience in supporting Government clients, including providing strategic guidance, monitoring deliverables, allocating resource needs, driving project workplans, and advancing high-impact health research initiatives.

This is a hybrid position with a minimum of 2 days per week on site in Washington, DC.

This position is contingent upon award.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and serve as a thought partner to office leadership to streamline processes, anticipate and mitigate blockers, and support goal-setting, operational planning, efficient execution, and support external messaging/communications.
  • Coordinate efforts among the team to track division-level assignments, actions, and milestones; report on OKRs and other performance metrics; advise and coordinate with the Division Director and DIA teammates to reach goals.
  • Coordinate support for senior leadership engagement in various client activities, including industry events, HHS matters, and international partner community as well as ecosystem trips and other events.
  • Track important international and US government developments and synthesize implications for office and agency efforts.
  • Work closely with other Action Officers to support the international agenda of the agency so the agency is well-organized, prepared, and informed for meetings and other engagements, including handling, responding, collaborating, and communicating with a broad range of requests from inside and outside the agency.
  • Interact with other U.S. government officials, foreign government officials, international partners, academics, private sector, and other executives in various sectors
  • Research international health industry trends in technology, investments, and innovation, and share with the team.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
  • Must approach editing with confidence and independence, unafraid to substantially revise or rewrite unclear or poorly written material to ensure accuracy, clarity, and quality.
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide candid, constructive feedback and make decisive editorial changes, even when revising work from senior staff or subject-matter experts.
  • Able to prioritize clarity and effective communication above personal sensitivities, ensuring all documents meet high standards regardless of their original form.
  • Comfortable working under tight deadlines and able to deliver high-quality documentation in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
  • Maintains composure and attention to detail when managing multiple projects simultaneously and during periods of high demand.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a Chief of Staff or Action Officer to an organizational principal or senior leader.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with international relations and engagements.
  • 10 years of cumulative experience desired.
  • Experience engaging with senior-level executives, including SES or GS-15 equivalent.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, optimizing operations, and solving complex problems to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research, analyze data and organizational priorities, and generate actionable insights to inform strategic decisions.
  • Proven skills in coordinating team efforts, tracking progress, and advising on strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication skills with experience engaging a broad range of stakeholders, including U.S. and foreign government officials, international partners, and private sector executives desired.
  • Experience in a leadership support office ("front office") in a government environment desired.
  • Experience with U.S. and/or international government and/or nongovernment health organizations desired.
  • Ability to be well-organized, detail-oriented, and adept at multitasking and prioritizing responsibilities to meet deadlines desired.
  • Prior experience supporting U.S. DoD advanced development programs, R&D, or start-up organizations desired.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree. Master's degree preferred with a focus on health, management, and/or international relations.
