Rivet Operations Company has an opening for an Accountant to join our rapidly growing team in the Norfolk VA area. The Accountant supports the Military Sealift Command's (MSC) Comptroller Directorate (N8) by providing expert financial accounting services in accordance with federal regulations and generally accepted accounting principles. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, supports audit readiness, and contributes to the sustainment of MSC's financial systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial statements and reports in compliance with Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards.
* Perform detailed reconciliations of sub-ledgers to the general ledger, including but not limited to Operating Materials & Supplies (OM&S) Inventories and Property, Plant, and Equipment (PP&E).
* Develop, document, and update standard operating procedures for financial processes.
* Support preparation of audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for annual financial statements, including Balance Sheet, Statement of Net Cost, and Statement of Budgetary Resources.
* Assist in implementing and sustaining corrective actions identified through audits or internal controls testing, including Office of Management and Budget Circular A-123 (OMB A-123) requirements.
* Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations to improve financial performance.
* Support the Navy ERP (NERP) by performing accounting-related tasks within relevant modules.
* Research applicable financial regulations, accounting standards, and audit requirements to ensure compliance.
* Collaborate with other accountants, analysts, and data managers to maintain accurate financial records.
Education and Experience:
Senior Accountant:
* Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field.
* Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
* At least 7 years of accounting experience.
Staff Accountant:
* Current Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
* At least 5 years of accounting experience.
Both roles require:
* Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following:
* Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board (FASAB) Statements of Federal Financial Accounting Concepts (SFFAC) and Standards (SFFAS)
* Financial Accounting Standards Boardïs (FASB) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
* Department of Defense Financial Management Regulation (DoD FMR)
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Skills:
* Experience working with Navy ERP or other large-scale ERP/accounting systems.
* Familiarity with Department of Defense financial policies and audit requirements.
Security:
Requires the applicant to pass the security clearance requirement for the position. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
