Job Title: Project Manager

Location: Preference for candidates located in the DMV region.

Workplace: Remote

Clearance Required: TS or CBP BI or DHS Suitability tier 4 (clearance adjudicated within the past 4 years)

Position Overview

As a Program Manager for Elder Research's Defense Portfolio, you will have the opportunity to develop and utilize leadership skills, build strong relationships internally and externally, leverage your experience and passion for data science to drive both project delivery and business strategy as well as oversee the health and growth of your portfolio of clients.

You will drive technology and analytics delivery by:
  1. Meeting with program leaders and stakeholders and collaborates with other members of the data science services team regarding the development of innovative data analysis techniques.
  2. Lead the data science services contract team in providing analytical support to address complex business questions.
  3. Assist the team in articulating mission gap problems and process inefficiencies.
  4. Oversee the implementation of appropriate solutions recommended by the team, such as data science reports or machine learning models, for agency leaders and stakeholders.
  5. Responsible for the supervision of subordinate consultants, data scientists, and analysts.

Major Duties/Tasks:
  • Mentoring and guiding Data Scientists and Software Developers.
  • Engaging with clients to understand and define needs.
  • Technical contributions as needed (code reviews, feature development, bug fixes, prototyping, overall engagement with the technical contributors on the team).
  • Project management and budgeting.
  • Employee performance.
  • Business Development and Growth Strategy.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience:
  • Eight (8) years of relevant experience applied research, big data analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, operations research or other closely related other quantitative or mathematical discipline. At least five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Advanced Degree (Masters or Ph.D) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Science, Operations Research or other closely related scientific or technical discipline. A Ph.D degree may be substituted for up to three (3) years of relevant experience.
  • Experience managing a team involved with building and evaluating Large Language Models is a must for this position
  • Ability to plan, organize, direct and control the project/program to ensure all contractual obligations are fulfilled, quality standards are met, and associated expectations of performance are achieved.
  • Ability to provide expert directions and guidance to subordinates, develop schedules and formulate work plans.
  • Demonstrates exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to apply broad management skills and specialized functional and technical expertise to guide the project team in delivering client solutions and manage the day-to-day operations
  • Manage and control project funds and resources and serve as point of contact to the COR.
  • Experience with NLP concepts including preprocessing (stemming, etc.), TF-IDF, Named Entity Recognition, and LLMs.
