Platform Engineer (FEP)

Job Description:
Sr. Platform Linux – (Front End Processor (FEP) Engineer) with experience in traditional infrastructure design to support our Linux based Front End Processing (FEP) system. The FEP Engineer would be engaged in the design and architecture of the system and will interface both with Program IPT Management as well as team members in Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) to help develop the environment from requirements.
The Sr. Platform Linux (FEP) Engineer will support design, development, and implementation of traditional compute/network/storage systems for this effort. This includes getting familiar with existing operating systems and existing server hardware designs; to emulate what is needed in the FEP environment.
The Ideal candidate will be well versed in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) based environments, have a good understanding of traditional on premises Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) infrastructure systems to design, develop, and maintain the program’s FEP equipment used as the interface between satellite command and control systems and Ground Terminal (GT) equipment.
Note: This position will be located in Aurora CO; and some travel (up to 10%) to customer sites may be required to support deployed systems / configurations and testing.
Job Responsibilities:
- Leverage company and industry best practices and capabilities to assist with design, development, implementation, and support of the on-premises Front End Processor (FEP) solution, to include Software-based FEPs (SoftFEP) or hardware-based appliance FEPs implementations.
- Configure & implement Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) scripts to manage the configuration and troubleshoot the FEP.
- Design, implement, generate code through scripting tools, test, document, and maintain the system.
- Assist with the development of test and integration configurations, optimizing FEP performance across the environment.
- Provide guidance on FEP resource allocation & utilization.
- Assist engineers with tool usage and issues, leveraging standards and best practices.
- Configure and manage network connectivity for the FEP system.
- Operate FEP hardware / software diagnostic tools.
- Setup and configure the FEP software simulator tools.
- Provide support maintenance & test activities for the factory and within operational facilities.
Required Skills:
- Typically requires BS/BA Degree in Science, Technology Engineering Math (STEM) in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Physics and 5+ years of related work experience.
- Thorough background in on premise RHEL Based infrastructure design.
- Experience designing an integrated system that includes network, compute, and specialized FEP equipment.
- Experience with common information system (compute and network) hardware interfaces.
- Experience with configuring and maintaining Common Cryptographic equipment in a secure environment.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with verification and hardening IT systems in compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
- Extensive Linux CLI development experience.
- Experience in Network designs and implementation.
- Experience with the Agile development lifecycle and SAFe agile processes.
- Broad experience with automated infrastructure testing of large systems.
- Experience using and configuring hardware (e.g., setting up system network time protocol).
- Experience with Cryptologic Equipment configuration and maintenance.
- Experience system troubleshooting in heterogeneous hardware environments.
- Experience with systems and hardware testing.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours.
