Leidos is looking for a talented Lead Software Engineer (C++) to join our Security Enterprise Solutions (SES) division in Tewksbury, MA. Come join our cross-functional engineering team using cutting edge technology to develop truly novel solutions that make travel and trade safer, healthier, and more efficient on a global level. Leidos SES leverages industry leading screening technologies, AI/ML capabilities and advanced biometric tools to provide automated threat detection for weapons, narcotics, explosives, contraband, and undeclared goods, as well as nuclear and radioactive materials.

We are currently seeking candidates local to the Tewksbury, MA area. This position offers a flexible hybrid work schedule, with the opportunity to telework two days per week. Additionally, enjoy a 9/80 work schedule—giving you every other Friday off!

As a Lead Software Engineer (C++) on our diverse and collaborative team, you will work alongside our expert Scientists and Engineers, contributing to Leidos products with global impact on security detection. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill software development – you’ll be honing your engineering skills with embedded products, real-time programming, and object-oriented design, all with the support of a management team focused on your professional growth and advancement. Working in a diverse team, your primary responsibility will be to directly manage and work alongside a team software developers in the design, implementation, and troubleshoot multi-tiered distributed applications and systems. 
 

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable C++ code using good OOP/OOAD techniques for our systems.
  • Optimize, identify bottlenecks, bugs, and devise solutions to problems including: Maintain code quality, revision control and organization, Analyze customer issues and identify and implement solutions, Participate and contribute within a defined software development process. 
  • Participate in the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and debugging software programs for enhancements and new software-intensive systems and products. Apply appropriate principles, standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the software development life cycle. Duties include software requirements analysis, analysis of hardware compatibility, development of software products and tools used for design, development and maintenance of infrastructure, and platforms.
  • Develop solutions to complex technical issues and problems that impact multiple area or disciplines.    
  • Communicate with internal team members, with external development teams and cross functionally with other functions such as product and program management.
  • Functional management of a team of engineers, including hiring and performance management.
  • Works to influence project leaders regarding solution design, process and/or approaches.
  • Requires expert knowledge of and ability to apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Leads other developers on the design and implementation of software projects
  • Occasional travel to customer sites may be required. Travel may be domestic and international.


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience. Additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of education.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (US citizenship required).
  • Hands-on experience on Linux OS required for developing software applications.
  • Hands on experience of software build tools (make, cmake, red hat package manager, installs) required to create software applications.
  • Working knowledge of C++ and OOP/OOAD.
  • Graphics Design and GUI development: hands on experience on developing and debugging multithreaded C++ GUI and business logic-based applications.
  • Understanding data structures, algorithms, and software design solutions.
  • Experience and a desire to mentor junior engineers and managing direct reports.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Linux kernel development; interfacing with hardware and real-time debugging.
  • Experience with Qt 4 or above.
  • Experience with Boost.
  • Understanding of GTK.
  • Working knowledge of SQL.
  • Working knowledge of Cybersecurity.
  • Working knowledge of networking solutions.
  • Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies.
  • Experience of creating KVM and VirtualBox VM’s.
  • Understanding of 3D image rendering using GPU Programming with CUDA and/or OpenGL

Pay Range: Pay Range $104,650.00 - $189,175.00
