You will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with a Veteran first vision to transform the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) with greater visibility into claims processing. Responsibilities:
• Build and maintain data pipelines to extract, transform, and load structured and unstructured data into scalable AWS-based data platforms.
• Design and optimize data architectures using AWS services like Glue, Redshift, S3, Athena, Lambda, EMR, and RDS.
• Implement and enforce data governance, security, and quality policies in accordance with VA standards.
• Support data ingestion from legacy systems and external partners, including OCR, APIs, and flat files.
• Develop reusable scripts and automation for data transformation and orchestration (Python, SQL, PySpark, etc.).
• Collaborate with analysts and data scientists to support advanced analytics and ML initiatives.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, and tune performance of ETL workflows and database systems.
• Contribute to DevSecOps and CI/CD practices for data engineering components.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in data engineering, data warehousing, or cloud data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with AWS data services (Glue, S3, Redshift, Lambda, Athena, etc.).
• Proficiency in Python, SQL, and ETL development.
• Familiarity with data lake and data warehouse architectures.
• Experience with DevOps tools, version control (Git), and CI/CD pipelines.
• Understanding of data privacy, security, and compliance in regulated environments.
• Experience with healthcare or government datasets is a plus.
• AWS certifications such as Data Analytics - Specialty or Solutions Architect preferred.
• Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting
