Overview:
A well-established defense contractor is seeking a Technical Writer with 3+ years of experience to support a mission-critical Navy program. The role involves creating and managing technical documentation alongside engineering teams, including QA, software developers, and testers. The position is based on-site near a U.S. Navy installation in Southern California.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain technical content: test reports, manuals, instructions, appendices
Create and update documents supporting product deliveries for domestic and foreign military use
Including:
Software Description Documents (SDD)
Software Version Documents (SVD)
Test Plans and Interim Summary Reports (ISR)
Software User Manuals (SUM)
Participate in internal and customer-facing meetings to align on documentation updates
Support document reviews for requirements, cybersecurity, integration, and release readiness
Assist in template creation and formatting for consistent documentation
Help manage updates and compliance data in Navy cybersecurity systems (e.g., DADMS)
Track versioning and component status across fleet applications
Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, systems engineers, testers, and config management
Requirements:
3β10 years of experience in technical writing, ideally in defense or engineering environments
Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (MS Office Suite)
Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently
Must be a U.S. citizen
Active Secret clearance required at time of hire
Minimum education: High school diploma (GED or equivalent vocational training accepted)
