Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to hire an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer or a Principal Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer. This position is located in Huntsville, AL and supports the Strategic Deterrent System (SDS) Division.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00Salary Range 2: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.

What you'll get to do:
- Reviews and interprets existing and proposed environmental, health, safety & sustainability (EHS&S) regulations to determine applicability and impact for sites.
- Assists with implementation of programs to comply with EHS&S regulations.
- Partners with business leaders to continuously improve the culture, awareness, and accountability in support of EHS&S programs.
- Assists with the development, implementation, and maintenance of EHS&S programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention, and risk mitigation.
- Completes audits, IH sampling, ergonomic assessments, and assist in pollution prevention activities. Interfaces with regulatory representatives, senior management, the site EHS&S Committee.
- Assists with the implementation of EHS&S management systems at the site level.
- Additional roles and responsibilities may include:
- Serves as a liaison with regulatory agencies.
- Provides timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to the company and regulatory agencies.
- Write and updates EHS&S plans and procedures.
- Applies for new permits and renewals.
- Conduct compliance inspections and identifies actions necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
- Coordinates EHS&S training for employees and conducts instructor-led EHS&S training.

You'll Bring These Qualifications:
- EHS Engineer (T2) : Bachelor of Science degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in an EHS position; or a Master of Science in the same disciplines with 0 years of relevant experience
- Principal EHS Engineer (T3) : Bachelor of Science degree in safety, industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in an EHS position; or a Master of Science in the same disciplines with 3 years of relevant experience; or a PhD of Science in the same disciplines with 1 years experience.
- Must have an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business need.
- Willing to travel as business needs arise
- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Products (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, or Project).
- Experience in manufacturing
- Experience conducting personal protective equipment assessments and/or job hazard analysis
- Experience conducting facilities inspections from an EHS&S standpoint to ensure regulatory requirements are met
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization.
- EHS experience in manufacturing
- Ability to perform job duties with general direction and supervision and to provide technical solutions to complex problems based on sound safety principles.
- Ability to analyze complex problems by actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources
- Experience with oversight of third-party consultants/contractors.
- Experience conducting personal protective equipment assessments and job hazard analysis.
- Experience conducting facilities inspections from an EHS&S standpoint to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
- Ammunition/Explosives safety
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with Hazardous waste shipments.
- Experience conducting engineer design reviews for manufacturing and production tooling.
- Consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems
