Northrop Grumman Defense Systems Sector, Command and Control & Weapons Integration Division, is seeking an EHS Engineer 2/3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Huntsville, Alabama campus. The Huntsville Campus is comprised of multiple Northrop Grumman sectors. The successful applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman Defense Systems, Command and Control & Weapons Integration Division Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) team.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

The primary role of this position will be to lead environmental, health, and safety (EHS) efforts across the Huntsville locations and at regional sites and offices. Responsibilities will include:
  • Review and interpret existing and proposed EHS regulations to determine applicability and impact on operations.
  • Partner with business leaders to continuously improve the culture, awareness and accountability in support of EHS programs.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of EHS programs to ensure compliance, injury prevention and risk mitigation.
  • Complete audits, industrial hygiene (IH) sampling, ergonomic assessments, and assist with pollution prevention activities.
  • Assist during accident/incident investigations to help determine root cause and corrective actions
  • Interface with internal and external customers including regulatory representatives, senior management, EHS Committee, and the Emergency Response and Crisis Management teams.
  • Implement EHS management systems to proactively eliminate or reduce workplace hazards.
  • Additional roles and responsibilities may include:
  • Serve as liaison with regulatory agencies.
  • Provide timely and accurate submission of necessary reports to the company and regulatory agencies.
  • Write and update EHS plans and procedures.
  • Apply for new permits and renew current permits.
  • Prepare and coordinate EHS training and conduct instructor-led EHS training.
  • Support the site's environmental sustainability program.
  • Travel and/or provide support to field sites and offices as needed.


Basic Qualifications:
  • For a level 2: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, or a related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in an EHS position or Master of Science (MS) degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, or a related field with 0 years of experience or additional years in lieu of a degree
    For a level 3: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in an EHS position or Master of Science (MS) degree in industrial hygiene, engineering, environmental science, occupational safety, or a related field with 2 years of experience additional years in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with no less than two of the four:
  • Managing various EHS compliance programs (such as hazardous waste, storm water, wastewater, air, occupational safety, etc.) based on the review and interpretation of EHS regulations; Experience in completing industrial hygiene assessments and sampling; Oversight of third-party consultants/contractors; and/or Implementation of EHS management systems (e.g. ISO 14001, OSHA VPP).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization are essential.
  • Ability to solve complex problems by actively seeking information and new ideas from a variety of sources; consistently looking for novel ways to solve problems; mastering unfamiliar information, tasks and situations quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Secret clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional certifications in environmental or health & safety related programs.
  • Experience with SAP and Microsoft SharePoint programs.
  • Computer based skills specifically with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point programs.


Salary Range: $77,600.00 - $116,400.00Salary Range 2: $95,800.00 - $143,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
