The IT Network Engineer designs, configures, and supports complex enterprise network infrastructures across LAN, WAN, data center, and cloud environments. They will lead efforts in network engineering, operations, and maintenance, including installation and optimization of routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers. The engineer configures routing and switching protocols (e.g., OSPF, BGP), implements redundancy and failover solutions, and ensures network availability and performance. They will support incident response, disaster recovery, firewall rule management, and security compliance, while contributing to logical and physical network architecture, configuration management, and system lifecycle planning in alignment with customer standards and modernization goals.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Design, engineer, and implement complex network infrastructure across LAN, WAN, data center, and cloud environments.
  • Install, configure, and maintain network devices including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Configure and optimize routing and switching protocols such as OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, and MPLS.
  • Implement network redundancy, failover mechanisms, and high-availability solutions to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Perform network analysis, capacity planning, and performance tuning to meet IRS uptime and SLA requirements.
  • Support physical infrastructure tasks including hardware lifecycle management and cabling/rack management.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for network outages and Tier 2/3 escalated incidents.
  • Manage firewall rulesets, router ACLs, and network access controls to enforce IRS security standards.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and ensure compliance with FISMA and NIST guidelines.
  • Maintain and document configuration baselines and version control for network devices.
  • Support disaster recovery planning and participate in incident response and business continuity exercises.
  • Collaborate on system engineering lifecycle (SELC) activities including planning, design, implementation, and operations.
  • Monitor network traffic and utilization using tools such as NetFlow and SNMP and produce performance reports.
  • Assist in logical and physical network design, infrastructure assessments, and system modernization efforts.

Education:

  • Bachelor's or a master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field

Experience:
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience in network engineering, design, and implementation.
  • Experience in enterprise-level networks, including data centers, cloud infrastructure, and large-scale WAN/LAN setups. Proven experience in managing and troubleshooting network protocols, such as TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, and MPLS.
  • Project management experience leading or working on network-related projects, including design, upgrades, or troubleshooting.

Certifications:

  • CISCO™ Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or
  • CISCO™ Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE).

Strongly Desired Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure components: routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and wireless networks. Proficiency in scripting/automation. Familiarity with automation tools.
  • Expertise in network analyzing tools.
  • Strong knowledge of network security protocols and practices, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS systems, and Zero Trust models.
  • Experience with cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and SDN (Software-Defined Networking).
