The Senior Computer Network Support Architect designs and oversees the logical architecture of customer networks, ensuring scalability, security, and performance across public, private, and hybrid environments. They will lead efforts to segment traffic, manages IP address space, and optimizes DNS/DHCP services. The architect develops configuration baselines, supports lifecycle planning, and aligns network designs with IRS business needs and security standards. They will analyze network infrastructure, assesses vulnerabilities, and recommends enhancements to improve reliability and compliance. Working closely with engineering and cloud teams, the architect integrates modern technologies into the existing environment and support transition planning and system modernization initiatives.

Working closely with engineering and cloud teams, the architect integrates modern technologies into the existing environment and support transition planning and system modernization initiatives.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, review, and enhance logical network architecture to ensure performance, scalability, and security.
- Develop and maintain network segmentation strategies using VLANs, VRFs, and SDN to isolate traffic as required.
- Manage IP address allocation, subnetting, and ensure proper configuration of DNS and DHCP services.
- Conduct infrastructure assessments to identify performance issues, security gaps, and outdated equipment.
- Create and maintain configuration baselines for routers, switches, and firewalls in compliance with client standards.
- Support the System Engineering Life Cycle (SELC) by contributing to planning, design, implementation, and operational documentation.
- Develop and update system lifecycle plans, WBS, KPIs, and process documentation to support customer modernization goals.
- Recommend network enhancements and technical solutions that align with IRS business and mission needs.
- Collaborate with cloud, security, and network engineering teams to ensure cohesive system integration.
- Support transition planning activities and ensure seamless knowledge transfer during contractor or system transitions.
- Ensure compliance with FISMA, NIST 800-53, and client-specific security guidelines through design and configuration practices.
- Provide expert input on logical redundancy, failover strategies, and high availability service planning.
Education:
- Associate's degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years of experience in network architecture, design, and implementation.
- Proven expertise in managing and employing systems across public, private, and hybrid environments.
- Strong understanding of virtualization technologies, containers (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible
- Experience with network architecture, cost optimization, and high availability architectures.
Certifications:
- Cisco Certified Architect (CCA) at a minimum.
- Additionally, ASWS Certified solutions Architect
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or
- Google Professional Cloud Architect or similar certifications are a plus.
