The Journeyman Computer Network Support Specialist supports day-to-day network operations by configuring, monitoring, and maintaining hardware and software across LAN, WAN, and cloud-connected environments. They will assist with implementing firewall rules, access controls, and network security measures, and helps manage IP address allocations and DNS/DHCP services. The specialist contributes to system backups, device patching, incident resolution, and network performance monitoring and supports physical infrastructure tasks such as hardware inventory, device installation, and cabling. Working under the direction of senior engineers and architects, the specialist helps ensure system availability, security compliance, and operational continuity in alignment with customer standards.

Job Responsibilities:
- Support daily network operations across LAN, WAN, and hybrid environments.
- Assist in configuring and maintaining routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
- Help implement and update firewall policies, access control lists (ACLs), and network segmentation rules.
- Contribute to IP address management (IPAM), including subnet allocation and DNS/DHCP configuration.
- Perform routine system backups, patching, and device firmware updates.
- Monitor network performance and assist in identifying and resolving bottlenecks and anomalies.
- Respond to Tier 2/3 support escalations, participate in incident analysis, and assist in root cause resolution.
- Support physical infrastructure tasks such as hardware installation, cabling, and device labeling.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of network hardware and associated warranties.
- Assist in enforcing network security practices and compliance with IRS cybersecurity requirements.
- Document network configurations and support updates to configuration baselines.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to support modernization and maintenance projects.
Education:
- Associate's degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of two years of experience in network support and implementation.
- Proven experience in supporting systems across public, private, and hybrid environments.
- Strong understanding of network technologies.
Certifications:
- Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) at a minimum.
- ASWS Certified solutions Architect,
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or
- Google Professional Cloud Architect or similar certifications are a plus.
