Tyto Athene is searching for a Cybersecurity Engineer - Journeyman to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida. Positions are located both CONUS/OCONUS at the SOUTHCOM HQ in Doral, FL, and at the TSOC and other locations abroad (GTMO, Honduras, Colombia etc.).
The Journeyman Cybersecurity Engineer supports the implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity controls, tools, and risk management practices for DoD systems and networks. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role ensures systems comply with DoD cybersecurity policies and frameworks, including RMF and NIST 800-53.

The Journeyman Cybersecurity Engineer supports the implementation and maintenance of cybersecurity controls, tools, and risk management practices for DoD systems and networks. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role ensures systems comply with DoD cybersecurity policies and frameworks, including RMF and NIST 800-53.
Responsibilities:
- Support the integration and configuration of cybersecurity tools (e.g., endpoint protection, SIEM, vulnerability scanners)
- Conduct security scans and vulnerability assessments using tools such as ACAS and SCAP
- Assist in implementing security controls as defined in RMF and NIST SP 800-53
- Perform STIG validation and apply security hardening to servers, workstations, and network devices
- Support system security documentation, including POA&Ms, SSPs, and ATO packages.
- Monitor system logs and alerts for potential threats and incidents
- Participate in incident response, remediation, and forensic analysis
- Work with system administrators and developers to address security requirements
- Stay current with emerging threats and compliance mandates
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field
- 4-9 years of experience in cybersecurity or information assurance roles
- In-depth knowledge of RMF, STIGs, SCAP, DISA tools and DoD cybersecurity policies
- Familiarity with DoD RMF, STIGs, SCAP, and DISA cybersecurity tools
- Experience with security event monitoring, vulnerability management, and patch validation
Desired:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity or related field
- Understanding of cloud security principles
- Familiarity with Zero Trust and endpoint detection and response tools
- Basics scripting or automation
- Experience supporting security audits or assessments
- Proficiency in scripting or automation
- CSSP or equivalent
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- Microsoft/Azure Fundamentals
- Vendor specific certifications (ACAS, Splunk)
