Tyto Athene is searching for a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to support U.S. Southern Command on the SCITES II Contract in Doral, Florida. Positions are located both CONUS/OCONUS at the SOUTHCOM HQ in Doral, FL, and at the TSOC and other locations abroad (GTMO, Honduras, Colombia etc.).
The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in securing enterprise systems, networks, and cloud infrastructure. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cybersecurity architectures and controls to protect classified DoD systems from evolving threats. The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer leads assessments, incident response, and implementation of zero-trust and defense-in-depth strategies.

The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in securing enterprise systems, networks, and cloud infrastructure. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cybersecurity architectures and controls to protect classified DoD systems from evolving threats. The Senior Cybersecurity Engineer leads assessments, incident response, and implementation of zero-trust and defense-in-depth strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of security solutions across networks, endpoints, and cloud environments
- Conduct system security architecture assessments and provide mitigation strategies
- Support the implementation of RMF (Risk Management Framework) and NIST SP 800-53 controls
- Guide the configuration and management of cybersecurity tools (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection)
- Lead vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and remediation efforts
- Collaborate with system engineers, developers, and program managers to ensure cybersecurity is integrated throughout the lifecycle
- Develop and maintain security documentation, including POA&Ms, SSPs, and CONOPs
- Oversee security incident response efforts and root cause analysis
- Serve as a mentor and technical leader for junior cybersecurity personnel
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in cybersecurity engineering, including DoD systems
- In-depth knowledge of RMF, STIGs, SCAP, DISA tools and DoD cybersecurity policies
- Hands-on experience with networks and host-based security tools
- Familiarity with system and network architecture principles, encryption technologies, and identity/access management
Desired:
- Master's degree in cybersecurity or related field
- Experience in cloud security
- Experience with Zero Trust Architecture implementation
- Experience working with CSfC, CDM and CMMC frameworks
- Proficiency in scripting or automation
Clearance:
- TS/SCI clearance required
Certification:
- DoD 8570 Baseline & CE certifications are required for all positions and may vary slightly depending on the skillset required to perform the role
- CompTIA Security+ CE
- CISSP, CISM or equivalent
- Vendor specific certifications (Azure, Splunk, ACAS)
