AI Engineer, Senior

The Opportunity:

Are you ready to lead the design and deployment of cutting-edge AI solutions where they matter most? As an experienced AI Engineer, you'll join a mission-driven team that is pushing the boundaries of AI to support the operational needs of the U.S. Air Force.

In this role, you won't just contribute-you'll take ownership. You'll architect and implement scalable machine learning systems, guide technical decision-making, and mentor junior team members. You'll collaborate closely with data scientists, M&S experts, and software engineers to translate high-impact operational challenges into deployable AI solutions. Whether it's building custom models, fine-tuning LLMs, or integrating AI into complex, real-time environments, your work will directly enhance warfighter decision-making and readiness.

We're looking for engineers who not only understand state-of-the-art ML but are passionate about delivering usable, robust, and responsible AI in high-stakes environments. You'll bring your experience from tech, academia, or industry to help us accelerate innovation inside the Department of the Air Force.

If you're driven by impact, thrive in ambiguity, and want to apply your AI expertise to problems that truly matter-this is the place for you.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience designing, training, and deploying machine learning or deep learning models in production environments
  • Experience in Python and modern ML frameworks, such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or scikit-learn
  • Experience with full-cycle ML engineering, such as data preprocessing, model development, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring
  • Knowledge of scalable ML systems and tooling, such as MLflow, Docker, Kubernetes, Ray, FastAPI, or Airflow
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams, lead technical efforts, and drive results in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or Applied Mathematics

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience applying or fine-tuning foundational models or large language models (LLMs) in mission-critical settings
  • Knowledge of responsible AI principles, model interpretability techniques, and ethical deployment considerations
  • Knowledge of MLOps best practices and CI/CD for ML workflows
  • Secret clearance
  • AWS Certified Machine Learning Specialty including, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent certifications
