Northrop Grumman, Space Systems, is seeking a Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Composite Structures/Case Design team. This position will be at our Propulsion Systems Division facility located in Promontory, UT.

Roles and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for aiding the development of composite rocket motor cases and associated hardware. Candidate will contribute to both major design and analytical efforts based on knowledge and experience. In this role the candidate will be expected to:

• Use advanced in-house codes coupled with finite element analysis to create and analyze current and future rocket motor case products.
• Perform 2D and 3D structural analysis for the design of flight hardware and test articles using Siemens NX CAD software and ABAQUS/CAE.
• Create engineering drawings and specifications to define design for hardware fabrication, write test plans, support fabrication efforts, oversee testing, analyze test data and revise designs based on results.
• Learn and help maintain standard design processes.

Basic Qualifications:
This position can be filled at either a level 2 or level 3.


Basic Qualifications for level 2:

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required and 2 years or MS and 0 years of experience

Basic Qualifications for a level 3:

• BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required and 5 years or MS and 3 years of experience

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or associated discipline
• Strong understanding of solid mechanics principles
• Strong understanding of classical mechanics principles
• Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter
• Ability to communicate technical content thru email, phone, in-person and group settings
• Ability to organize and catalog information and documentation
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
• U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in mechanical engineering or associated discipline
• Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacturing.
• Understanding of composite laminate plate theory (CLT)
• Structures design experience with composite and metallic materials

Additional Requirements:

• Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Salary Range: $77,200.00 - $115,800.00Salary Range 2: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
