Amentum is seeking a Technical Writer to support surface ship maintenance and modernization efforts by developing, organizing, and maintaining technical documentation related to engineering, project management, and administrative procedures. This position is located at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC), Naval Station Norfolk, VA, and will require collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams supporting the planning, execution, and analysis of ship repair and installation activities.
You will serve as a key contributor to the ship maintenance team by producing high-quality technical content, identifying process improvement opportunities, and assisting in the implementation of department-level instructions and metrics. Your work will directly support program efficiency and help streamline communication across technical and administrative stakeholders.

You will serve as a key contributor to the ship maintenance team by producing high-quality technical content, identifying process improvement opportunities, and assisting in the implementation of department-level instructions and metrics. Your work will directly support program efficiency and help streamline communication across technical and administrative stakeholders.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Research, develop, write, and edit technical documentation supporting ship repair, installation, and operational efforts for surface ships.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Project Management, Engineering, Financial Analysts, and Administrative personnel to gather and clarify technical information.
- Analyze and evaluate complex project or program procedures, identifying areas for process improvement, and drafting solutions to improve efficiency and compliance.
- Conduct detailed investigations into administrative or procedural issues, preparing clear and actionable recommendations based on findings.
- Use technical drawings, publications, instructions, and prior study results to inform and support documentation efforts.
- Support the development and implementation of departmental and organizational instructions, policies, and performance metrics.
- Organize and coordinate documentation timelines across multiple projects, effectively identifying, communicating, and resolving scheduling conflicts using established and innovative scheduling tools and techniques.
- Ensure compliance with organizational standards and Navy technical writing requirements, where applicable.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of five (5) years of general experience supporting Project Management, Engineering, Financial Analysis, Administrative, and Technical functions in the context of surface ship repair, installation, or operational support.
- Demonstrated experience performing analytic and evaluative tasks to resolve complex issues across various administrative and technical domains.
- Proven ability to conduct research using engineering drawings, technical publications, formal instructions, and prior studies or research efforts.
- Experience assisting with the creation and implementation of department-level documentation and performance metrics.
- Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple concurrent efforts and proactively resolve scheduling conflicts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) and experience with document management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
- Must have an active secret US government clearance. Note: US citizenship is required to maintain a secret clearance.
