Job Summary
The HHDS Progressive Engineer Junior (PEJ) is accountable for contributing to the development and implementation of high precision mechanical manufacturing processes to support the DOD. In this highly visible hands-on role, you will have direct frequent communication and collaboration with DOD Industrial Design, Product Design, and Manufacturing Design partners, as well as our worldwide suppliers.
The PEJ role is empowered and expected to bring creativity to DOD’s manufacturing approach, enabling DOD to deliver our best work to as many customers as possible!
As a PEJ, you'll collaborate in the creation, evaluation, and implementation of end-to-end manufacturing solutions for key design features on DOD’s products. You will ensure DOD’s manufacturing solutions meet their product quality, cost, yield, capacity, schedule, and environmental goals.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Assist in the evaluation of product and design goals to understand the dimensional, cosmetic, and functional priorities for the product.
Collaborate with Various Industry Partners and USG suppliers to align on a manufacturing development strategy with clear goals, expectations, and schedules.
Collaborate in the identification and validate suitable fabrication equipment and processes to meet all DODs design and operational requirements.
Develop and document processes including all parameters, consumables, and secondary operation requirements to meet defined specifications.
Conduct process optimization, using data and hands-on approaches together to find solutions to sophisticated challenges.
Communicate ongoing process development status to functional teams and lead discussions to align design requirements with manufacturing capability.
Provide leadership at global manufacturing sites during development and production ramp, traveling internationally, identifying root causes of open issues, and driving corrective actions to timely resolution.
Collaborate with internal partners and equipment suppliers to develop and refine metal convergent manufacturing processes and equipment.
Optimize convergent manufacturing processes for DOD, dimensional quality, reliability, and throughput requirements. Develop methods to model and characterize key performance indicators in convergent manufacturing.
Support Product Design in development of metal alloys for additive manufacturing applying knowledge of convergent manufacturing systems and powdered metallurgy.
Provide expert level support to project teams utilizing metal additive manufacturing to bring designs from concept to limited production
Develop best in class qualification plans and procedures to qualify convergent manufacturing equipment and materials applying DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ.
Education and Experience:
2+ years of experience in metal additive manufacturing related technical roles
Must be able to obtain a SECRET Clearance. Active security Clearance a plus
Communicates technical information clearly and persuasively in both written and verbal English forms.
BS or equivalent experience or higher in mechanical, manufacturing, material science, industrial engineering, or related fields. Can be substituted for Experience.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Must be a US Citizen
Preferred Qualifications:
First-hand experience in laser powder bed fusion process development, including use of material characterization tools to aid in process DOE
Knowledge of secondary operations including powder handing and recycling, automation, heat treatment and stress relief processes.
Applies a hands-on approach to engineering and problem-solving
Demonstrates commitment and tenacity; a self-starter who learns quickly and adapts to find new solutions in the face of adversity
Employs project management tools to effectively plan and track work to completion; diligent and reliable in completing tasks independently
Military experience
Experience on the shop floor, in a hobby or professional context
Ability to travel 15%+, to Conus and countries in the INDO-PACOM AOR,
