Job Description
B AE Systems is seeking an on-site Linux System Administrator to support our work as a prime contractor on a high-profile U.S. Navy weapon system. Accuracy, integrity, subject matter expertise, and the ability to work well independently and help others as able are important traits we expect the successful candidate to possess and demonstrate. This position is full time on-site at Washington Navy Yard.
This position is mainly responsible for supporting the installation, configuration, maintenance, and deployment of Linux Servers. You will install, configure, harden, patch, tune, upgrade and archive Linux Servers; harden Linux Servers in accordance with System Security Policies and DISA STIGs; troubleshoot issues to restore operations; and assisting with COTS installations, tuning, and troubleshooting. This role is the front line for ensuring Linux security and is responsible for performing vulnerability scans and remediate findings. As the Linux subject matter expert, you will create technical documentation to include technical instructions and technical designs. Additionally, you will also be required to support other Department operations as needed. The role is for someone eager to work in a DoD environment supporting the customer's mission, who love's learning how to use and administer new tools and technologies, enjoys working with people and collaborating across teams, and has a high degree of personal drive and initiative.

Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy projects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $95106 - $161680
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
BAE has found that success in this position requires:
- Bachelor's Degree and at least 6 years of position related work experience; OR equivalent position related work experience.
- An IAT II certification as specified in the DoD 8570
- Or, have a SECNAV 5239 qualifying degree AND meet the requirements for an IAT II as specified in the DoD 8570 within 6 months of start date
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC), badge access to the customer's facility, and a SSP network account in good standing
- Experience hardening systems in accordance with DISA's Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
- Ability to understand and remediate vulnerabilities identified by CTOs, IVAMs, DISA STIGS, ACAS, and evaluate STIG
- Proficient with Linux Native Security tools
- Capable of installing, configuring, and operating AIDE across multiple machines
- Capable of managing SELINUX and SELINUX policies across a wide software baseline
- Understanding of Linux native firewall and system services
- Experience with Linux scripting languages to automate tasks using Ansible or similar tools
- Experience planning and deploying complex toolsets on top of the Linux platform
- Java/Tomcat/TomcatEE/Glassfish installation and application support (troubleshooting, upgrades)
- Docker container deployment and container management (build, test, and update).
- NFS/CIFS deployment, configuration and troubleshooting
- Experience with Gitlab, Git, and Gitlab workers, and configuring Gitlab pipelines
- Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Docker and Docker containers
- Must be capable of working in a small team using Agile methodology and with engineering staff to diagnoses correct issues
- In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP and supporting protocols
- Basic knowledge of Virtualization (VMWARE Preferred) and relational databases (Oracle and/or MySQL)
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Linux+ or a RHCE/RHCA training or certification
- Docker compose, K8 or Openshift experience
- Experience working in a hybrid military-civilian military environment
- Degree in an IT, Information Systems, Engineering, Science or similar technical discipline is preferred
- Formal training/coursework
Pay Information
