Venturi, LLC, A Chenega Company, has a challenging opportunity for a Rocket Motor Engineer who will support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Targets and Countermeasures Chief Engineer's office. This Engineer will apply expertise across multiple programs, developing the next generation of reentry vehicles, rocket motors, and countermeasures in support of creating realistic test environments for the nation's missile defense systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expertise in support of numerous rocket motor launch vehicle systems from short to long-range class motors. These systems range from established systems with decades of heritage to new systems preparing for first flight events.
  • Provide an independent review of commercial launch systems capabilities and suitability for use in MDA flight test events.
  • Evaluate design, manufacturing, test, and qualification programs for all aspects of a motor, to include the case, nozzle, and propellant.
  • Apply expertise in motor systems to evaluate thrust performance based on case and propellant design and make recommendations to senior leaders on trade-offs and capabilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Master's degree with 12+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program/project OR
  • Bachelor's degree with 20+ years working on missile defense-related or other complex, large DoD program/project
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be a US Citizen



Desired:
  • Experience with Stress, Loads, and Structures analysis
  • Experience with propellent grain manufacturing and characterization
  • Familiarity with ground test operations related to motor firings
  • Knowledge of metal and composite materials common to Rocket motor design
  • Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Familiarity with MDA and/or DoD programs and processes.
  • MDA/DoD experience and familiarity with the Missile Defense System
  • Familiarity with MDA flight test targets and threats
  • Experience with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with MDA and/or DoD programs and processes
  • Ability to apply Engineering rigor to solve engineering/scientific problems
  • Experience writing, presenting, and coordinating product and engineering plans, policies, and procedures
  • Understanding system interface requirements and requirements management
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas and produce and present clear, concise, well-organized, and audience-relevant presentations and documents.
  • Reviewing system engineering documentation to ensure specifications meet system needs and are accurate
  • Works independently, as a team member, or leading teams/tasks
  • Experience working in a configuration-controlled environment and ensuring proper levels of handling are applied to items
