  • Use of hand tools, scale, grinders, small sanders, tape measure, fixtures, rotary
  • positioners, and prescribed welding equipment.
  • Follow very complex welding prints and established procedures for all operations.

Job Description:
Under general direction of supervisor, performs all operations to lay out, set up, erect, fit and weld both small and large structural assemblies and cabinets for a wide variety of panel boards, switchgear and other electrical/mechanical products.

Layout and position structural members on floor bed-plates, allowing for expansion and contraction of metals, and clamp components into position holding squareness and parallelism to close fractional tolerances. Measuring using a variety of accurate measuring instruments and good working skills with fractional and decimal dimensions is a daily requirement.
  • Tack, weld and or braze members into place using hand electric arc, oxy-acetylene or inert gas welding techniques.
  • Good manual skills in GTAW of Aluminum (AC Current); GMAW Short arc and Globular Processes on Steel (Sheet primarily).
  • GTAW Aluminum Qualification Testing: 1/8" Groove (2G, 3G); 1/32" Fillet (2F)
  • GMAW Short Arc Steel Qualification Testing: .119" Groove (2G, 3G); .059"" Fillet (2F)
  • Drill openings, carefully gring and polish parts, plug and patch defects and clean and dress welds as necessary.
  • Use hand tools, scale, grinders, small sanders, tape measure, fixtures, rotary positioners, and prescribed welding equipment. Select proper size and type of electrode or rod; set current density and regulate gas pressure.
  • Follow very complex welding prints and established procedures for all operations.
  • Work requires some physical exertion, often in difficult or cramped working positions.
  • Follow all Safety and Personnel guidelines in a professional manner.
  • Accurately record work done and hours tracked on paper documents as well as computerized MES Systems.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of company information as required and to level cleared.
  • Welder will be required to weld and qualify, via testing (hands-on and written), in the manual weld process, Code interpretation, and Visual Inspection in accordance with NAVSEA S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 and location procedures. Observe all safety regulations as required.
  • Train lower rated employees.
  • Refer all unusual conditions to supervisor.
