Duties
The United States Space Force (USSF) at Vandenberg Space Force Base is searching for Western Range Mobile Optical Instrumentation Supervisor, 2 ROPS (NH-1060-03, GS-12/13 Equivalent).
Description:
Supervise the acquisition and production of scientific and technical optical data from WR launch and test operations. Direct the operations, maintenance, sustainment and full life-cycle program management of the WR mobile optical instrumentation capabilities in support of space launch, ballistic missile, missile defense, weapons and flight test missions. Serve as supervisor providing direction, guidance, organization and control over nonsupervisory employees. Serve as subject matter expert for optical instrumentation and fulfilling launch agency and range safety requirements.
Performs tactical mission planning and leads teams to deploy unique and complex mobile optical instrumentation systems and associated communications, command and control systems and logistics support functions to remote and austere field locations to acquire multispectral, high-definition, real-time video and high-speed imagery during launch and test events. Leads Photographer teams to produce technical documentary video of transportation, payload integration and assembly of launch vehicles. Imagery products support DoD and commercial launch and test programs for real-time and post-event analysis and anomaly investigations.
Performs strategic planning to ensure teams are organized, trained and equipped to meet current and future requirements.
Selectee must have the ability to lead and motivate teams in a dynamic, high OPSTEMPO environment.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of a wide array of optical instrumentation systems, their underlying concepts, theories, principles, practices and techniques, and their use and selection to support the production of scientific and technical imagery of launch and test events under varying atmospheric, lighting and distance conditions.
2. Knowledge of planning and program management to execute major projects, provide expert advice to colleagues, and present innovative recommendations for advancing programs and methods.
3. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures.
4. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization.
5. Ability to research, evaluate, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, and procedures to a variety of situations and to recommend timely and economical solutions.
6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Requirements
Conditions of Employment
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Employees must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise; must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.

- Work is performed both inside and outside under varying weather conditions. Safety precautions and equipment are required when working at night near or on optical sites, launch facilities, or when working on optical tracking systems.
- May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft within CONUS or to downrange sites in the performance of Temporary Duty Assignments (TDY).
- Eligible for situational telework only, including Emergency and OPM prescribed "Unscheduled Telework"
- PCS/Relocation funding is available.
- May be subject to recall during other than normal duty hours and may be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
- Subject to Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY): Approximately 15 days per year.
