The successful candidate will join the Engineering team to support the Center Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering Contract (CMOE) located at NASA's Langley Research Center (LaRC). This position reports directly to the Pressure Systems Group - Technician and Craft Supervisor.

This position is intended to promote employees to the classification of "Craft Technician - Pipefitter/Oxygen Clean." Employees will be required to complete OJT/Certification in a three (3) step program.

An obligation and primary job duty will be to ensure your personal safety, the safety of coworkers and customers. This role will support the Maintenance Services Group.

Responsibilities:

  • Put safety at the forefront and follow all applicable guidelines
  • Examine, inspect, and clean for all types of valves, piping, and components. Additionally, there are specific standards, tools, and techniques used throughout the oxygen cleaning process
  • Visually detect any presence of visible oil film, matter, or grease. These particles can include filings, loose adherent rust, mill scale, and other chips. Any noticing of contamination requires a full re-cleaning process
  • Obtain lockout tagout certification
  • Work may involve other duties as assigned


U.S. Citizenship required. Six years of experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training in a designated field, craft, or trade that can be documented by a certificate or diploma from a reputable organization, school, or trade program (completion of apprenticeship preferred). Must be able to effectively communicate with others. Review and understand all level requirements.

Candidate must complete and pass the Pipefitter/Oxygen Clean Standards Level I, II, and III as established on the approved checklist.

Essential Functions

Work Environment:

Office Environment (15%)

Test environment (85%) - May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, and industrial facilities.

Travel between various facilities and during test operations required and may bring exposure to loud noise and potentially hazardous equipment operations (10%)

Physical Requirements:

Visual and physical (hands on) contact of test related systems, hardware, and articles. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb various heights, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35 lbs. (100%). Ability to distinguish basic colors (10%). Corrected vision and hearing at all times (100%).

Must be able to use the following:

  • Platform or A-frame ladders up to 12 Ft (30%)
  • Extension ladders up to 24 Ft (10%)
  • Personal or one-man aerial lifts up to 30 Ft. (10%)
  • Articulating or boom aerial lifts up to 35 Ft. (10%)

Will use hand tools/power tools/mechanical/electrical control devices. (40%)

Personal computers and related equipment (20%)

Safety and personal protective equipment (100%)

Attendance:

Regular attendance is mandatory (100%)

Employees will exercise diligence when developing a Safe Plan of Action (SPA) for each task performed. Your SPA is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.
