In Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) Systems, you'll help develop systems that sense, control, exploit and disseminate actionable information to warfighters supporting a variety of missions.
BAE Systems is seeking a Portfolio Engineering Lead (PEL) to support the Space Systems product line, in the Space Electronics product area at our Manassas, Virginia site. Known as an industry leader in space electronics, our products can be found on most commercial, civil, and national security space missions. For the Space Electronics product area, we develop high performance radiation hardened space microelectronics, single board computers, and networking solutions.
As part of the BAE Systems team, in this role you will lead teams of engineers to architect, develop, and sustain space products that solve the toughest mission needs. You'll have the opportunity to lead and work with engineering and program management to deliver high performance solutions within cost and schedule constraints. As part of PEL role, you will also take on special assignments as PEM for key strategic efforts, leading engineering team in execution, captures, or continuous improvement initiatives. We are seeking candidates with experience in radiation hardened microelectronics design, processing, and networking solutions for critical National space missions.

The PEL will be the primary engineering leader for a family of products focusing on program execution, new business growth, product leverage, product evolution, and continuous improvement. The PEL provides engineering leadership for the assigned product family during all lifecycle phases (conception, design, development, production, and support).
Because of the need for consistent, in-person collaboration and/or the requirement to perform all work onsite due to the nature of this particular role, it will be performed full time on site. This means work will be conducted on location at a BAE Systems facility 100% of the time.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $150370 - $255630

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

As a PEL the selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading matrixed portfolio of approximately 50 engineers in program execution, new business growth, product leverage, product evolution, and continuous improvement
- Engineering leadership and ownership of a group of projects working with the program managers and customers as well as leading the engineering portfolio and associated products and programs.
- Monitoring and guiding the projects to ensure work scope, technical performance, schedule, and cost/budget of the integrated engineering teams are well defined, maintained, and met for all projects within the portfolio.
- Works with Product Line Engineering Lead (PLEL) and Engineering Discipline Leaders/Managers to assign and grow program engineering managers (PEMs) and other engineering staff on programs.
- Supports PLEL in running the engineering efforts within the Product Line.
- Create effective and cohesive program teams by integrating architects, subject matter experts, project technical leads, and engineering leads addressing all aspects of the product life cycle
- Coach teams on cost account management, interfacing with the engineering team, program management, and finance.
- Support growth of Program Engineering Mangers (PEMs) and other Technical Leads within the Portfolio by implementing a PEM and CE pipeline talent development program to build the pipeline for future leaders.
- Ensuring compliance with company processes for program bids and execution. Ensure that program reviews are completed, and approvals are received.
- Coordinating the program engineering work with other stakeholder groups, including operations, quality, contracts, and finance personnel
- Working part time as PEM on key strategic efforts within the portfolio.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Science, Engineering, or Math and 15+ years' experience
- Current Secret security clearance
- 12+ years of space electronics engineering development and production support experience
- Experience leading engineering teams in project planning and execution with a focus on scope control, scheduling, and cost tracking
- Experience leading large matrixed engineering teams with multiple programs and products.
- Experience in captures and proposals, including leading engineering team in proposal.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EVMS, program scheduling, task codes, program metrics, and staffing determination
- Ability to independently lead, plan, and execute work tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment
- Experience leading cross functional/organizational teams and team building
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
- Current Top Secret / SCI level security clearance
- MS in Science, Engineering, or Math
- Knowledge of customer community in space programs in the DoD, GEOINT, SIGINT or Communications domains
- Experience leading teams/efforts with 40+ engineers
- Experience in development and leading teams in radiation hardened electronics (ASIC and single board computers) design, processing, and networking solutions for critical National space missions.
- Understands procurement and integration to meet system requirements and deliver product
- Experience executing cost type and fixed price engineering development activity
- Understanding of engineering processes and procedures across all disciplines
Pay Information
