Job Summary:

The Mission Specialist (specifically a GPS Planner or GP in this case) plays a critical role in supporting mission-critical operations, focusing on the planning and coordinating the mission schedule for 2 NWS operations. This position ensures mission success by leveraging technical expertise, coordinating between cross-functional teams, and ensuring that all operational and mission objectives are met in a timely and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities:

Mission Planning and Execution
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute mission objectives in alignment with 2 NWS mission operation needs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations and sustainment, to ensure mission readiness and efficiency.
  • Monitor and manage all mission phases, from planning through execution, providing real-time support during critical mission events.
  • Ensure all mission-related activities comply with regulatory, safety, and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate mission operations transfer procedures between the MCS and AMCS and relocate to the backup location (Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA), as required, as part of real-world/exercise and contingency operations.
Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or a related technical field required, or combination of experience and education.
  • Experience: 2+ years of experience in mission planning, operations, or a related field.
  • Clearance Requirement:
  • Secret (Required)
  • Top Secret (Desired)
  • Required Skills:

  • Strong technical background with experience in mission-critical environments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and mission management software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination across teams.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and during high-stress mission events.
  • Willingness to travel or work in mission environments as needed (periodic deployments to the AMCS at Vandenberg SFB).
  • Preferred Skills:
  • CompTIA Security+ (IAT Level II) certification
  • Experience with OCX Mission Planning Subsystem software.
  • Knowledge of OCX Scheduling Technical Order procedures.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in dynamic, operational environments that may include remote operations.
  • Capability to remain focused and perform tasks during long periods of mission activity.
  • Some travel may be required for mission planning and execution.
  • May involve extended hours during critical mission phases or in response to emergencies.

Work Schedule:

This is a full-time position, typically working 40 hours per week. Overtime may be required depending on operational needs.
