Zero Trust Engineer — IRES Contract
Location: Colorado Springs, CO

Salary Range: $150,000 – $200,000 DOE

Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Zero Trust Engineer to support the Integrated Research & Development for Enterprise Services (IRES) contract in Colorado Springs. This role will lead the implementation and enforcement of Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) principles across mission-critical systems supporting Department of Defense (DoD) operations. You will collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud, and enterprise IT teams to ensure that the IRES infrastructure meets evolving security standards in alignment with DoD directives.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) in accordance with DoD Zero Trust Reference Architecture.
Collaborate with network, identity, and cybersecurity teams to integrate authentication, authorization, segmentation, and monitoring across systems.
Analyze enterprise network infrastructure and recommend improvements based on Zero Trust principles (least privilege, micro-segmentation, identity-based access).
Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and documentation in support of ZTA initiatives and RMF compliance.
Ensure integration of ZTA into enterprise IT systems, cloud services, and cross-domain solutions.
Provide engineering support during implementation and assist in vulnerability remediation aligned with NIST 800-207.
Lead efforts to deploy ZTA-aligned tools such as EDR, identity federation, PAM, NAC, and data loss prevention solutions.
Participate in risk assessments, audits, and internal reviews to validate ZTA compliance.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or related field.
Minimum of 8 years of IT or cybersecurity experience with at least 2 years focused on Zero Trust concepts or implementations.
Experience working within DoD environments, with strong knowledge of DoD Cybersecurity policies (RMF, NIST, DISA STIGs).
Expertise in identity and access management, network segmentation, and secure remote access solutions.
Experience with tools and technologies such as Okta, Cisco ISE, Azure AD, Palo Alto, CrowdStrike, and Splunk.
Active DoD Secret clearance required; TS/SCI highly preferred.
Relevant certifications (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, CEH, CISM, or DoD 8570 IAT Level III).
Preferred Qualifications:
Hands-on experience implementing Zero Trust within DoD or IC systems.
Familiarity with hybrid/multi-cloud security in AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.
Experience with automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
Familiarity with the IRES mission and enterprise IT modernization efforts.
