Note: This position is remote, but candidates must reside near a Navy base and be able to access a SIPR environment at least once per month.
Job Description:
We are seeking a VOIP Engineer to support a mission-critical Navy program. This role involves the design, implementation, and support of secure Voice over IP (VOIP) solutions across classified and unclassified networks. The ideal candidate will have experience working in DoD environments and a strong understanding of secure voice communications, network integration, and system interoperability.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, configure, and maintain VOIP systems including Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Cisco Unity, and related voice gateways.
*Experience with Cisco Session Management Edition (SME) for centralized call control across clusters.
*Understanding of Cisco cluster design, trunking, and Intercluster Lookup Service (ILS).
*Session Border Controllers (SBC) and SEP
*Another item in the voice environments that would be good to have knowledge of/experience with is Cisco Expressway (Edge, and Control).
Collaborate with network and cybersecurity teams to ensure VOIP solutions meet security and performance standards.
Develop and execute test plans for new VOIP deployments and upgrades.
Troubleshoot and resolve VOIP-related issues, including call quality, latency, and interoperability.
Document system configurations, network diagrams, and operational procedures.
Support integration of VOIP systems with other communication platforms and mission systems.
Ensure compliance with DoD STIGs and IA policies for voice systems.
Participate in planning and implementation of system migrations and enhancements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Active Secret Clearance.
Security+ CE (or ability to obtain within 6 months).
Must reside near a Navy base and be able to access SIPR at least once per month.
3–5 years of experience with Cisco VOIP technologies (CUCM, Unity, CUBE, SIP, MGCP).
Strong understanding of voice protocols (SIP, RTP, SCCP, H.323).
Experience with:
Telephony background (Cisco)
Legacy voice systems
DISA protocol standards
Familiarity with QoS, VLANs, and network troubleshooting tools.
Familiarity with DISA STIGs and DoD voice security requirements.
