About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join a collaborative, fast-paced team supporting the Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) Micro-Services Enterprise - Mission Planning (MOµSE-MP) program. This effort is part of the Next Generation Mission Planning Enterprise, focused on delivering advanced environmental intelligence to Navy and Air Force aviation mission planners.
Working within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment, you will contribute to the development of microservices and NPM packages that provide accurate, timely, and mission-relevant METOC data. The role is highly collaborative, involving multiple development teams across Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and requires both strong technical capability and communication skills.

Target Salary Range: $86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.

About The Role

What will you do:
- Design, develop, test, and debug advanced software applications and systems, incorporating logical and mathematical solutions.
- Collaborate with engineers, analysts, and stakeholders to define and analyze system capabilities, user needs, and performance requirements.
- Develop and maintain software solutions including compilers, utility programs, and operating systems; ensure software standards and compliance are met.
- Lead and support engineering tasks focused on 2D and 3D visualizations of METOC forecasts and observations from multiple authoritative weather data providers.
- Participate in full-stack development activities supporting UI/UX design, backend services, and API integration.
- Contribute to and improve testing frameworks
- Create and maintain regression test plans
- Develop JUnit test cases
- Monitor pull requests and integration workflows
- Support CI/CD best practices and DevSecOps pipelines.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams within and across ARTs, ensuring shared understanding of tasking and resolving technical issues efficiently.
Qualifications
What you will need:
- BS degree + 8 years, MS + 6 years, or PhD + 3 years of experience in software engineering or a related field
- Proven experience in Agile software development teams (SAFe experience strongly preferred):
- Experience with Java, Tomcat, Spring BootReact, Node.js, JavaScript
- Must be able to obtain a DOD Secret clearance
- Must be able to live in the Stennis Space Center metro area and work in the office when required
