Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Software Engineer to support the development, design, and implementation of advanced software systems for a U.S. Government customer. The selected candidate will play a key role in translating system and customer requirements into scalable, secure software solutions using modern development tools and cloud-based database technologies. This role requires hands-on technical expertise with full lifecycle software development and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
This is a hands-on role requiring proficiency in application development, system interface design, and DevOps practices.

Key Responsibilities
• Develop detailed software designs and associated technical deliverables aligned with system requirements.
• Translate customer and system requirements into robust software solutions.
• Design system interfaces to ensure seamless integration across platforms.
• Develop applications using technologies such as SOLR, Elastic, Postgres, Java, Scala, RDS, and Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
• Work hands-on with relational and non-relational databases including Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, and Postgres.
• Troubleshoot and support Internet and web protocols and technologies including Tomcat, Node.js, Web Services, and SSL.
• Develop and maintain unit and integration tests using JUnit, Jasmine, Jest, Karma, or similar testing platforms.
• Utilize DevOps tools such as Git, Jenkins, and Nexus for continuous integration and deployment workflows.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies including scrums, sprints, and grooming sessions to manage software delivery.
• Manage and update Jira tickets, coordinate with security, operations, engineering, and testing teams for technical support and issue resolution.
• Document and track vendor software roadmaps and patch updates to maintain system currency and stability.
• Conduct code reviews and unit testing to ensure software quality and reliability.

Mandatory Skills & Experience
• Demonstrated experience developing detailed software designs and translating requirements into solutions.
• Proficient in designing system interfaces and working with relational/non-relational databases (Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, Postgres).
• Hands-on experience developing applications using Java, Scala, Spring Boot, SOLR, Elastic, or similar technologies.
• Experience troubleshooting web protocols and technologies including Tomcat, Node.js, Web Services, and SSL.
• Strong testing experience with JUnit, Jasmine, Jest, Karma, or similar frameworks.
• Practical knowledge of DevOps tools including Git, Jenkins, and Nexus.
• Experience with Agile development methodologies and managing sprint progress metrics (e.g., burn-up charts).
• Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and manage Jira-based workflows.

Education Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Equivalent experience may be substituted for a degree on a year-for-year basis.

• Familiarity with data repositories, segmentation services, and security operations pipelines.
• Experience working with profile, alerting, discovery, and recommendation service applications.

• Understanding of cloud environments such as AWS and Azure.
• Experience managing COTS product integration and coordinating development efforts.
