Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a Cyber Security Project Engineer with strong expertise in cloud security and compliance to support a U.S. Government customer. This role involves leading and contributing to system security engineering efforts, authorization and accreditation (A&A) activities, and enterprise risk management across complex cloud environments. The ideal candidate has proven experience supporting continuous monitoring operations, conducting security control assessments, and advising technical teams and leadership on system architecture and cyber risk.________________________________________
Key Responsibilities
• Facilitate Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) with Cloud Service Providers to review system architectures.
• Maintain A&A packages across services/systems in accordance with FIPS-199, NIST 800-53, and CNSS 1253.
• Assess, design, and implement systems using major cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, and IBM Cloud.
• Review and advise on cross domain solutions and common architecture design patterns.
• Consult with project teams on system architecture and security posture.
• Support continuous monitoring, analyze security scans (Rapid7, Nessus, Qualys), and document risk mitigation steps.
• Create, manage, and close Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms).
• Utilize compliance tracking tools such as Xacta 360, RSA Archer, and Risk Vision.
• Apply the Common Control Provider model under the NIST Risk Management Framework.
• Collaborate with SCAs to prepare complete and accurate security control packages.
• Conduct information system security engineering and contribute to evolving SOPs to meet mission objectives.
• Advise leadership on the security of cloud infrastructure, services, and emerging threats.

Mandatory Skills & Experience
• Demonstrated experience with Sponsor or specific A&A processes.
• Expertise in designing or reviewing cloud system security documentation and architecture.
• Strong understanding of information security controls and regulatory compliance.
• Proficiency in cloud risk analysis, scan remediation, and risk mitigation.
• Experience with cloud security body of evidence (BoE) reviews.
• Direct experience with Xacta 360 and related compliance tools.
• Familiarity with continuous monitoring requirements, POA&M tracking, and change management across multi-cloud environments.
• Ability to collaborate with security teams and analyze alerts for risk assessment.

Education Requirement
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• Equivalent experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Skills
• 5+ years working within the Intelligence Community or similar classified environments.
• Familiarity with the Common Control Provider model within the needed environment.
• Experience across all five major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle, IBM).
• Strong documentation and technical consulting skills.
• Ability to guide leadership through cloud security strategy and decision-making.
