Position Overview
Quantum Science Solutions (QSS) is seeking a highly skilled Cloud Solutions Architect to lead secure and compliant cloud architecture initiatives for a U.S. Government customer. This role requires deep technical knowledge of cloud platforms, experience guiding system design decisions, and the ability to support authorization activities across complex environments. The Cloud Solutions Architect will interface with both engineering teams and cloud service providers to ensure that cloud solutions are resilient, risk-informed, and aligned with evolving federal security standards.________________________________________
Key Responsibilities
• Lead Technical Exchange Meetings (TEMs) with cloud providers to evaluate cloud architectures and ensure alignment with mission requirements.
• Maintain Assessment & Authorization (A&A) packages across multiple systems in accordance with FIPS-199, NIST 800-53, and CNSS 1253.
• Design, implement, and assess secure cloud architectures using platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, or IBM Cloud.
• Evaluate and advise on cross-domain technology solutions and common security architecture designs.
• Consult project teams and leadership on system architecture, security postures, and risk mitigation.
• Lead and support continuous monitoring operations, including scan analysis using tools like Rapid7, Nessus, and Qualys.
• Track and manage Plan of Action and Milestone (POA&M) items to support remediation efforts and risk reduction.
• Use tools such as Xacta 360, Risk Vision, or RSA Archer to monitor A&A activities and maintain compliance.
• Leverage knowledge of the Common Control Provider model under the NIST Risk Management Framework (RMF).
• Support preparation of A&A packages and collaboration with Security Control Assessors (SCAs).
• Conduct security engineering activities in support of cloud-based infrastructure and application environments.

Mandatory Skills & Experience
• Demonstrated experience facilitating technical engagements with cloud service providers.
• Proficient in cloud system security assessments, authorizations, and continuous monitoring.
• Experience designing secure cloud solutions for federal or mission environments.
• Familiarity with specific security compliance processes, including the Sponsor’s A&A framework.
• Skilled in interpreting and applying NIST 800-53, CNSS 1253, and FIPS-199 controls.
• Proficient in identifying and remediating vulnerabilities through risk analysis and mitigation strategies.
• Direct experience with compliance tools such as Xacta 360 or equivalent.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with technical teams and advise senior leadership on cloud security.
• Experience in developing or sustaining SOPs in alignment with evolving security and operational goals.

• Deep experience with multiple commercial cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP, Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud).
• Demonstrated understanding of cross-domain security concerns and cloud-native architecture patterns.

• Experience reviewing Body of Evidence (BOE) packages for security completeness and accuracy.
• Ability to perform forensic and analytical reviews of system alerts and vulnerability data.
