About the Role:
Culmen International is looking for an Assistant Controller with strong general ledger and accounting experience supporting federal contracts for the finance/accounting department.
This position is approved for remote but must reside commuting distant from HQ in Alexandria, VA.
What You'll Do in Your New Role:
In your role, reporting to the Vice President, Controller, and Treasury, you will be entrusted with several important responsibilities, including:
Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the accounting system.
Supporting the preparation of precise financial statements and related reports in a timely manner.
Assisting in facilitating external audits and field examinations.
Effectively prioritizing and completing multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail while consistently meeting deadlines.
Contributing to the annual Incurred Cost Submission process.
Taking ownership of the business unit's general ledger and ensuring its accuracy.
Managing general ledger accounts and thoughtfully reviewing reconciliations prepared by colleagues.
Reviewing and approving transactions prior to their posting in the general ledger, encompassing Accounts Payable, Cash Receipts, Timesheets, Labor costs, and Payroll
Ensuring that all transactions are recorded accurately, comprehensively, and timeliness.
Managing, monitoring, and periodically updating Standard Operating Procedures for finance functions as necessary.
Ensuring the timely filing of Sales and Use Taxes, as well as Property Taxes.
Demonstrating a proactive approach in identifying and resolving issues effectively.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field
15+ years of comprehensive accounting, auditing, payroll and tax experience required
7+ years of experience as an Accountant supporting a government contracting firm
Government contracting knowledge of: FAR, CAS, JTR, FTR
Ability to create systems that improve efficiency and internal controls.
Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational/communication skills.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality.
Technical proficiency with Deltek Costpoint accounting software
Strong aptitude working with IT applications
Proficiency across MS Office Suite with advanced Excel skills
Self-starter with excellent organization and listening skills, who works well in a dynamic work environment with multiple priorities.
Desired Qualifications:
CPA preferred
