About The Role
Peraton is seeking a data-driven, highly skilled mind for an Enterprise Data Engineer role in the Joint Distribution Process Analysis Center (JDPAC) at United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM).
Location: Scott Air Force Base, IL.
Role & Responsibilities:
You will serve as the task lead responsible for developing a data infrastructure that supports a wide variety of USTRANSCOM analyses and operations. As the subject matter expert, you will guide the transformation of fractured data sources into a consolidated, logical structure that becomes the basis for creating decision advantage. In this way, the Enterprise Data Engineer will join other motivated professionals in helping USTRANSCOM succeed in its mission to project and sustain the Joint Force in support of national objectives.

About The Role

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide data engineering expertise to design, maintain, and optimize the data infrastructure for critical operations support areas such as time-series forecasting, aerial refueling analysis, and transportation demand and capacity planning.
- Enable data collection, management, transformation, and access via data pipelines that convert raw data into usable formats for data scientists and other data consumers.
- Develop, update, and design data schema and data ontologies to support transition into Palantir Foundry and maximize performance in that environment.
- Optimize data flows from multiple sources into a distributed data storage framework by leveraging efficient, distributed data processing techniques including the use of PySpark.
- Implement frequent data health checks and alerts to enhance data accuracy and consistency.
- Design and implement scalable solutions that can handle large volumes of data.
- Proactively model data to meet business requirements.
- Communicate regularly with analysts, data scientists, data engineers, and data consumers to understand current and future analytical efforts.
- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of data technology trends and actively seek to incorporate improvements on a continuous basis.
- Adapt to errors, technology outages, and changing requirements to minimize delays in providing support to USTRANSCOM operations.
- Analyze data and apply data validation rules to minimize data gaps and improve integrity.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable data governance and security policies.
- Provide quality documentation for all work to ensure transparency and operational continuity.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years experience in data engineering, enterprise data architecture, or a related field with a BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Management, Mathematics, or a related field from an accredited college or university; 6 years experience with an MS/MA; 3 years experience with a PhD.
- Proven ability to engineer, develop, and implement data architecture plans, standards, and guidelines that align with enterprise-level strategies
- Proficiency in developing data models, information architectures, and enterprise data ontologies.
- Development experience with Cloud platforms and other distributed data structures.
- Skills in architecting, developing, and implementing scalable data solutions that are optimized for their purpose and environment.
- Proficiency in using Apache Spark, PySpark, Python, and SQL for data transformations.
- Strong understanding of information systems, data warehouses, data marts, operational data stores, and ETL and MDM technologies.
- Knowledge of back-end development and experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Excellent ability to communicate with the customer, gather and understand their requirements, propose good solutions, and effectively demonstrate progress.
- Must have demonstrated skill in reducing complex problems into manageable components, and:
- The ability to effectively prioritize workload to meet deadlines and work objectives.
- Have a proactive mindset for independently troubleshooting and investigating solutions.
- Be able to employ strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work across organizational divisions
- U.S. citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain a Secret security clearance (interim clearance required to commence task work).
- Significant experience with ontology development using the Palantir Foundry platform.
- Current Active DoD Secret security clearance.
- Experience with USTRANSCOM or Department of Defense military logistics.
