Description

USI is seeking a highly experienced Senior Aviation Military Analyst - Utility Helicopter Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support Army aviation capability development efforts at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence (USAACE), Fort Novosel, AL. This position provides specialized expertise to the Aviation Capability Development and Integration Directorate (A-CDID), supporting the advancement of utility helicopter platforms, operational concepts, and future capability development.

The ideal candidate will be a senior or master-rated Army Aviator with deep operational knowledge of Army utility helicopters, instructional and staff experience, and a proven track record in capability development, requirements documentation, and Army-wide analysis initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on the tactical and operational employment of Army utility helicopters in support of A-CDID initiatives.
  • Provide expert analysis on current and emerging utility aircraft platforms, mission roles, performance characteristics, and limitations.
  • Support the development and refinement of Army aviation operational concepts, capabilities, and requirements, particularly for the utility fleet.
  • Lead or contribute to DOTmLPF-P analyses, Joint Working Groups, and capabilities-based assessments.
  • Develop and deliver high-quality technical products, including: White papers and concept papers, Requirements documents (e.g., ICDs, CDDs), Operational views, Architecture products, and Senior-level briefings and information papers
  • Support efforts related to the Joint Capabilities Integration and Development System (JCIDS), including participation in JROC-approved document development.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to teams conducting aviation studies and evaluating new technologies.
  • Assist with planning and execution of experiments, demonstrations, and other capability assessments involving the utility aviation fleet.
  • Conduct staff-level coordination with large aviation formations (400-2800+ personnel) and support division-to-theater-level planning.


Requirements

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 15 years of Army Aviation flight and combat operations experience.
    • Former Instructor Pilot (IP) or Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP) in utility helicopter formations.
    • Rated Senior or Master Army Aviator with utility aircraft experience.
    • Direct experience operating and instructing in currently fielded Army utility helicopter platforms.
    • At least 5 years of experience in combat or capability development roles.
    • Experience in producing or supporting JCIDS documentation, with direct leadership of a team that authored a JROC-approved document, is highly desired.
    • Experience with tactical staff operations involving attack, reconnaissance, or assault aviation in large formations (400+ to 2800+ personnel).
    • Prior leadership or management experience in an aviation unit or organization with 400+ personnel is preferred.
    • Participation in the Army Aviation Operations Capabilities-Based Assessment (CBA) is preferred.
    • Experience as a Maintenance Test Pilot or Examiner in utility helicopters is desired.
    • Experience leading Joint Working Groups and planning collaborative studies is desired.
    • Experience developing and evaluating aviation capabilities and emerging technologies is desired.
    • Operational deployment and direct combat utility aviation experience is preferred.
    • Strong understanding of the Army's light utility fleet and its limitations.
  • Education:
    • Completion of military or civilian staff education equivalent to CGSC/ILE or Warrant Officer Senior Staff Course required.
    • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to conduct independent analysis and produce high-quality written products under minimal supervision.
    • Capable of writing, reviewing, and editing products at the graduate level with minimal government revisions required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint and Word.
  • Security Clearance:
    • Active SECRET clearance required.
