Cybersecurity Engineer - Journeyman

Primary Location: Quantico, VA

Clearance: Active DoD Secret clearance and is designated as IT-II (Limited Privileged Access)

Job Summary

We are hiring a Journeyman Cybersecurity Engineer to support secure operations and compliance for enterprise IT systems. This role will focus on risk assessment, vulnerability management, and continuous authorization support, ensuring alignment with DoD cybersecurity standards and mission objectives. The candidate will support cybersecurity operations, risk management, and compliance in a secure, mission-critical environment while maintaining secure system sustainment, ATO support, vulnerability management, and continuous monitoring capabilities.

Specific Responsibilities

• Support the development and maintenance of cybersecurity documentation, including POA&Ms, risk assessments, and security test plans
• Conduct vulnerability scans, analyze findings, and coordinate remediation with engineering teams
• Participate in security reviews of system changes, configurations, and deployments
• Support the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process and assist with ATO packages
• Monitor system security posture using SIEM tools and provide incident response support
• Collaborate with system engineers to ensure secure architecture and configuration baselines
• Stay current on emerging threats and recommend updates to security controls and policies
• Support security audits, inspections, and compliance reporting
• Ensure compliance with NIST 800-53, STIG requirements, and DISA security guidance

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or related field
• 2-4 years of experience in cybersecurity engineering or information assurance
• Security+ CE certification (required)
• Experience with NIST 800-53, RMF, and DoD ATO processes
• Familiarity with SIEM tools, vulnerability scanning, and system hardening
• Experience supporting security assessments, audits, and incident response
• Strong understanding of secure system design and risk mitigation
• Active DoD Secret Clearance and IT-II (Limited Privileged Access) designation
• Experience supporting RMF and ATO processes in a DoD environment
• Knowledge of STIG compliance and DISA security guidance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting continuous ATO (cATO) or security inheritance models
• Familiarity with DevSecOps pipelines and automated security testing
• Experience with tools such as ACAS, Nessus, Fortify, or Splunk
• Experience supporting audit readiness and cybersecurity documentation
• Experience with vulnerability scanning and SIEM monitoring tools
• Knowledge of secure system configurations and compliance with NIST 800-53
• Experience in secure, mission-critical environments

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Secure office environment at Quantico, VA with no remote work capability
• Ability to sit for extended periods while working on computer systems and security analysis
• Must be able to work in a classified environment and handle sensitive security information
• Occasional travel may be required for security audits, training, or incident response

Travel

• Minimal travel required for security audits, compliance inspections, training, or incident response activities
