Overview

We are seeking an Enterprise Monitoring Engineer to design, implement, and support a next-generation monitoring solution for multiple on-premises, air-gapped Federal/DoD networks. This effort involves replacing the current BMC TrueSight monitoring platform, maintaining integration with ServiceNow ITSM, and deploying a comprehensive monitoring architecture that leverages best-of-breed technologies for systems, networks, and applications.

The successful candidate will bring strong expertise across the component technologies that enable enterprise observability, including systems administration, networking, APIs, databases, security compliance, and automation - with the ability to integrate these disciplines into a unified monitoring solution.
Responsibilities
  • Architecture & Implementation
    • Engineer and deploy monitoring collectors, agents, and integrations across Windows, Linux, virtualized, and network infrastructures.
    • Configure SNMP, NetFlow, WMI, API-based collectors, and log ingestion pipelines to support end-to-end observability.
    • Build monitoring policies, dashboards, and event correlation logic that provide actionable insights across multiple air-gapped networks.
  • Migration & Integration
    • Lead the migration of monitoring services from BMC TrueSight into a modernized monitoring platform.
    • Maintain and enhance ServiceNow integrations for incident generation, CMDB synchronization, and workflow automation.
    • Ensure compatibility and interoperability with existing ITSM, ticketing, and log aggregation tools (Splunk, Cribl, ELK).
  • Security & Compliance
    • Implement monitoring components in full compliance with DoD RMF, NIST 800-53, DISA STIGs, CMMC, and FISMA.
    • Apply secure configurations for Linux, Windows, network devices, and databases consistent with Federal/DoD hardening requirements.
    • Support accreditation and auditing activities through proper documentation, evidence gathering, and compliance reporting.
  • Operations & Sustainment
    • Develop operational SOPs, runbooks, and "as-built" documentation.
    • Provide troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and optimization across monitored systems and networks.
    • Train operations staff in monitoring best practices and daily sustainment tasks.
Required Experience
  • 5-8+ years of hands-on engineering in enterprise monitoring and IT infrastructure management.
  • Proven ability to integrate and operate monitoring across:
    • Systems: Windows Server, Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
    • Networks: Routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and network flows (SNMP, NetFlow, ICMP, syslog).
    • Virtualization & Cloud: VMware vSphere/ESXi, Hyper-V, Nutanix.
    • Applications & Services: Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle), middleware, storage systems.
  • Experience integrating monitoring solutions with ServiceNow ITSM/CMDB.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, PowerShell, REST APIs).
  • Background working in air-gapped Federal/DoD environments with strict security and compliance standards.
Required Technical Skills
  • Monitoring Protocols: SNMP, WMI, API-based collection, NetFlow, syslog.
  • Systems Administration: Linux and Windows hardening, patching, and baseline compliance.
  • Networking: TCP/IP fundamentals, secure device configuration, flow analysis.
  • Databases: PostgreSQL/MySQL for backend support, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Security/Compliance: NIST 800-53, DoD RMF, DISA STIGs, CMMC practices.
  • Automation: Python scripting, PowerShell automation, Ansible or Puppet for configuration management.
  • Integration: ServiceNow web services, CMDB synchronization, ITSM workflow alignment.
Desired Qualifications
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II/III certification (Security+, CASP+, CISSP).
  • Experience migrating from BMC TrueSight to a modern monitoring platform.
  • Familiarity with log analytics ecosystems (Splunk, Cribl, ELK).
  • Background in designing monitoring in classified, air-gapped Federal/DoD environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
