IDR is seeking a highly skilled Interface Engineer to join one of our leading defense clients in Colorado Springs, CO or Huntsville, AL. This is a full-time, on-site position where you’ll work on mission-critical interface environment. Position Overview/Responsibilities for the Interface Engineer:
• Develop and update multiple Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and Interface Design Documents (IDDs)
• Establish and maintain new interfaces between sensors, external elements, and C2 systems
• Ensure ICD/IDD documentation meets all program and DoD standards
• Create behavioral diagrams (use cases, sequence diagrams, activity diagrams) to support requirements elicitation
• Define and document system requirements in DOORS with sufficient detail for implementation teams
• Attend interface working groups and collaborate with MDA customers and external engineering teams
• Support integration and testing efforts related to assigned interfaces
• Contribute to broader Systems Engineering tasks as required by the SE department
• Assist spiral leadership in delivering interface artifacts and completing system assessment milestones
Required Skills for the Interface Engineer:
• Minimum of 9 years of Systems Engineering or related experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Software Engineering (Master’s preferred)
• Active Secret Clearance required
• Strong background in interface engineering, including ICD/IDD authorship to DoD standards
• Deep understanding of message formatting (e.g., XML, VMF), network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP), and physical/network specifications
• Experience creating behavioral models such as use cases, sequence diagrams, and activity diagrams
• Proficiency with IBM Rational DOORS for requirements engineering
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience supporting complex Command and Control Systems or Missile Defense Systems is highly desirable
• Familiarity with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Agile/Iterative development is a plus
• Willingness to travel as needed
