Venatore is a recognized leader in deploying secure, high-performance network infrastructures. We are looking for a Network Engineer III to play a critical role in the FTEL SCIF Network MLS implementation at Edwards Air Force Base. In this senior network engineering position, you will be responsible for installing, configuring, and optimizing the network components of a multi-level security system that connects up to six Top Secret networks for the FTEL SCIF. This role involves hands-on work with cutting-edge networking equipment in a classified environment to enable a Trusted Thin Client solution for dozens of users. This is a short-term, project-based position on-site at Edwards AFB requiring an active TS/SCI clearance.
Key Responsibilities
- Configure, manage, and troubleshoot network infrastructure for the MLS system, including switches, routers, and other network devices, to ensure robust and secure connectivity across multiple classified networks.
- Install and set up networking hardware on-site, such as Cisco Catalyst 9500/9300 switches and Juniper SRX1500 routers, as well as Forcepoint network distribution consoles and Trusted Thin Client endpoints, following the approved system design and implementation plan.
- Integrate and test connectivity to six Top Secret and Below Interoperability (TSABI) networks supporting up to 50 concurrent users, ensuring each network is correctly interfaced through the Trusted Thin Client architecture.
- Configure network parameters (IP addressing, VLANs, routing protocols, firewall rules, etc.) to establish segmented, secure communication channels between multiple networks while maintaining strict access controls and isolation as required by the MLS design.
- Implement high-bandwidth 10 Gb Ethernet connections and fiber optic links as specified, optimizing network performance and throughput for the virtual desktop infrastructure and ensuring low-latency, reliable data flow.
- Monitor the network during installation and integration, and troubleshoot any connectivity or performance issues that arise – diagnose problems at the hardware, software (OS/network configuration), and protocol levels, and work with the systems engineering team to resolve them quickly.
- Conduct on-site network testing and validation, including supporting security evaluation activities (such as Site-Based Security Assessment (SBSA) testing) and executing end-to-end functional network tests. Document test results and collaborate with the team to remediate any issues or vulnerabilities found during testing.
- Create and maintain network diagrams, as-built configuration documents, and support guides as part of the project deliverables, ensuring that all network configurations and changes are well-documented for transition to the operations team.
- Assist in training or knowledge transfer for base personnel as needed on network aspects of the system (e.g., explaining network layout, administrative interfaces, and basic troubleshooting procedures) to support a smooth turnover of the system.
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI security clearance is required prior to start.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on installation, configuration, and support of LAN/WAN infrastructure (experience in a DoD or other high-security environment is a plus).
- Strong hands-on expertise with enterprise network equipment and protocols – experience with Cisco networking (routers, switches) and network security devices is required; familiarity with Juniper or similar platforms is beneficial. (Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP are highly desirable.)
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex network issues, including knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols, VLANs, VPNs, and firewall configurations. Able to perform packet analysis and use network monitoring tools to diagnose problems.
- Experience implementing or supporting multi-network or segmented network environments is a plus – e.g., networks with multiple security domains or virtualization of desktops/applications.
- Knowledge of DoD networking security practices and hardening guidelines (e.g., DISA STIGs for network devices). DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (such as CompTIA Security+ CE) is required or must be obtained upon hire, to comply with DoD network security workforce requirements.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills – capable of writing clear network diagrams and instructions, and of coordinating with systems engineers, security specialists, and project managers in a collaborative on-site setting.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, secure facility environment, following all security protocols, and to adapt to schedule changes or urgent requirements during critical installation and testing periods.
