Position Summary:
The Database Engineer is accountable for the full lifecycle of enterprise database platforms, including planning, provisioning, installation/configuration, operations, and sustainment across Windows Server and HP-UX environments. You will deliver hands-on engineering and Tier III support for Oracle Database and SQL Server, drive technical research and development to foster innovation, and ensure that all hardware, OSs, databases, and procedures remain compliant with organizational policies, regulatory mandates, and DoD cybersecurity directives.
Job Description:
• Provision & Configure: Install, secure, and optimize Oracle and SQL Server on Windows Server and HP-UX, applying STIG or equivalent hardening baselines.
• Operate & Maintain: Monitor health, capacity, and performance; execute tuning (PL/SQL, T-SQL, indexing, partitioning) and manage patches, upgrades, and license compliance.
• Backup & Recovery: Design, document, and routinely test RMAN, Data Guard, and SQL Server Always On strategies to meet defined RPO/RTO targets.
• Incident Response: Lead Tier III troubleshooting, perform root-cause analysis, and deliver after-action reports for database or OS issues.
• Automation & IaC: Develop Bash/PowerShell scripts, Ansible playbooks, or similar to automate builds, patching, and compliance evidence collection.
• Research & Innovation: Conduct proof-of-concepts and technology evaluations to introduce new features, improve efficiency, and strengthen security controls.
• Security & Compliance: Enforce DoD 8570 and organizational cybersecurity directives; support RMF Assessment & Authorization documentation.
• Documentation: Produce and maintain architecture diagrams, ER models, SOPs, project plans, test scripts, and results with audit-ready accuracy.
• Stakeholder Communication: Translate complex technical issues for diverse audiences and provide clear status updates on objectives, scope, risks, and milestones.
Qualifications (Must Haves):
• Must possess at least an active Secret Clearance
• Must possess a DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification or higher: Category IAT Level II (i.e., CompTIA Security+, SSCP, CCNA Security)
• Must have five (5) years of specialized experience in Information Processing, with a strong focus on diverse hardware and software environments—This includes at least five (5) years of direct, hands-on experience of Oracle and/or SQL Server administration and analysis support.
• Possession of recognized database certifications (e.g., Oracle OCP, Microsoft SQL) is preferred.
