Software Engineer II

Kavaliro is seeking a Software Engineer II to support a client in Maryland.

Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in MongoDB, Amazon DocumentDB, and AWS to support complex, mission-critical software programs. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing, developing, and optimizing scalable applications using modern database platforms and cloud services. Familiarity with Java is required, and experience with Scala is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Design and develop applications leveraging MongoDB and Amazon DocumentDB within AWS environments.
• Develop high-performance APIs and services using Java (Scala experience is a plus).
• Optimize data models and queries for performance and scalability.
• Build and maintain cloud-native applications using AWS services.
• Work closely with systems engineers, cloud architects, and other developers to deliver integrated solutions.
• Implement software best practices, including CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Analyze complex data requirements and troubleshoot database-related issues.

Required Qualifications:

• Fourteen plus (14+) years of experience as a Software Engineer (SWE) in programs of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
• Four (4) additional years of SWE experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.
• Extensive hands-on experience with MongoDB and Amazon DocumentDB.
• Proficiency in AWS cloud services and architecture.
• Strong Java programming skills.
• Experience building scalable applications and data-driven services.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Scala.
• Familiarity with AWS-native database services and best practices.
• Knowledge of data modeling, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
• Experience in agile environments and modern DevOps pipelines.
• Prior experience supporting mission-focused or IC programs.

Location:

• Fort Meade, MD
• This position is onsite and there is no remote availability
