SPACECRAFT MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN 2 - REDONDO BEACH CA - 14684
Mechanical Technician 2 to support our Mechanisms and Sensor area. This position performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive operations in the development of mechanical and electromechanical designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Sets up and tests complete mechanical units and subassemblies under operational conditions.
Responsibilities:
• Assisting engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components.
• Precision cleaning and lubricating of various hardware.
• Must be able to work with various chemicals and solvents.
• Working from written instructions that provide methods and sequence of assembly operations. Using assembly drawings and diagrams.
• Performs a variety of tasks ranging from repetitive to non-repetitive operations on electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies.
• Perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to mechanical assembly, precision soldering, harness routing, bonding, electrical test using test procedures and other comparable tasks using tools such as solder irons, torque wrenches, machine tools, multimeters.
• Individual must be able to demonstrate to Quality Assurance that work performed meets engineering drawing requirements.
• Read, interpret and understand engineering drawings.
• Willing to work weekends as needed.
• Work in clean room environments with gown.
Basic Qualifications for Mechanical Technician 2:
• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) required and 2 years additional education and/or mechanical or gimbal assembly experience.
• Knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment.
• Strong work ethic, positive attitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to work in diverse teams of design engineers, manufacturing engineers and technicians.
• Ability to read, interpret, and execute work to mechanical assembly drawings, wire lists and BOM's and/or test procedures.
Preferred Qualifications for Mechanical Technician 2:
• Experience using common hand tools and calibrated tools Torque Wrenches, Heat Guns, Crimp Tools, Soldering Irons, Thermal Wire Stripers, Microscopes, Thermal Chambers/Ovens, etc
• Strong communication skills
• Familiar with electromechanical assembly. Have common knowledge of precision type assembly work.
• Past experience building spacecraft structures, sub-structures, deployable', hinges and electromechanical assemblies.
• Work independently with minimal direction.
• Installing/bonding heaters, thermistors, thermostats onto assemblies. Installing gears, electrical motors. Thermally install interfaces. All parts will be properly assembled together.
• Demonstrated ability to perform precision assembly on spacecraft hardware.
• Demonstrated ability to read and perform assembly to complex engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to perform bonding operations on spacecraft hardware.
