JOB TITLE: MECHANICAL ENGINEER II

CLASSIFICATION: EXEMPT
This position may be filled as level II or level III.
PRIMARY FUNCTION
Under indirect supervision, use mechanical design work for research, prototype development and integration into various payloads for airc raft or land-based applications . Additionally, the Mechanical Engineer will p erform preliminary and detailed level stress analysis of flight structures and mechanism.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products.
- Design, implement, maintain , and improve structural installations, equipment, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and military purposes.
- Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
- Direct and coordinate manufacturing, assembly, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications, and customer requirements.
- Plan method and sequence of installation/assembly for aircraft structural components.
- Maintain an intermediate working level knowledge of the practices associated with NAVAIR guidelines for aircraft structural installations.
- Maintain an intermediate working level knowledge of the practices associated with FAA guidelines for aircraft structural installations.
- Prepare project cost and work-time estimates.
- Design structural supports, protective coverings, mounting frames and environmental support equipment for various research projects.
- Assist in the development of ground support equipment for aircraft special project support.
- Responsible for structural analysis on new or existing designs to ensure safety margin compliance.
- Provide assistance in the drafting department if needed.
- Use hand-drafting tools when necessary.
- Go in the field to take measurements and assist in installation and removal of projects when necessary.
- Expected to monitor and inspect manufacture/fabrication of projects to ensure compliance with design.
- Perform Lead Project Engineer duties on a project.
- Perform other duties as are necessary and/or required .
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR A LEVEL II
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- B .S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. in Math, Science, or other Engineering Field, 2+ year's relevant work experience or a master's degree in a STEM discipline
- Must have experience with CAD programs.
- Must have intermediate knowledge in the design and analysis of aircraft structures.
- Able to work through problem sets with little supervision.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR A LEVEL III
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- B .S. in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. in Math, Science or other Engineering Field, 4+ year's relevant work experience, or a master's degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of relevant experience
- Must have experience with CAD programs.
- Must have intermediate knowledge in the design and analysis of aircraft structures.
- Able to work through problem sets with little supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
