We're seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Software Specialist to support the integration and sustainment of software systems within U.S. Army combat platforms. This role focuses on installing, configuring, and troubleshooting mission-critical software and related hardware systems. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of computer systems, software diagnostics, and military-grade firmware environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and deploy software for military combat systems.
- Identify and install necessary computer peripherals to support system integration.
- Perform preventive maintenance, system testing, and fault diagnostics.
- Configure hardware, software, and firmware for combat vehicle systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment failures and connectivity issues.
- Interpret and explain complex technical documentation and installation procedures.
- Ensure all system configurations meet U.S. Government cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with engineering and logistics teams to ensure software functionality and mission readiness.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet qualifications for Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Occupation Code 23430), with a software focus.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- 1-3 years of experience in software installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of computer hardware, software, and firmware configurations.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documentation and government-issued guidance.
- Experience with system diagnostics, failure recovery, and peripheral integration.
- Comfortable working with U.S. Government systems, including secure networks and classified equipment.
- Education or certifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field preferred.
- CompTIA Security+, Network+, or other relevant DoD certifications are a plus.
- Valid state-issued driver's license.
- At least 1 year supporting IT or software systems within a military or government context.
- Experience in combat systems software integration is highly desirable.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline preferred.
- Able to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in confined spaces on military vehicles or tactical systems.
- Willingness to operate in field conditions and adhere to Army safety protocols.
Security Clearance:
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Active Secret clearance required due to work with classified combat system software and hardware.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience working with U.S. Army combat vehicle platforms.
- Familiarity with DoD software compliance and sustainment procedures.
- Background in system hardening, cybersecurity practices, or firmware updates for tactical environments.
- Experience supporting FMS contracts or working with Army fielding teams.
