Nightwing is seeking a Mechanical Engineer for our Springfield, VA location to add to our technology development and mission support program. This engineer will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to develop innovative engineering solutions, from concept development through mission execution and deployment, often applying theoretical and practical engineering to solve our client's unique challenges.
Job Duties:
The engineer will work closely with teams to identify and develop innovative and practical solutions. The candidate must possess a positive attitude, initiative, strong problem-solving skills, and dedication to execute the program's development and mission support efforts. This position includes responsibilities for understanding and developing design requirements, generating test plans, conducting engineering analyses, and testing. The engineer will create and update designs, prepare fabrication drawings, coordinate with vendors, develop technical procedures, and prepare and deliver design reviews. A successful candidate will be a professional, self-starter with strong problem-solving and communication skills who is dedicated to the program's development and support efforts, and be able to work effectively with engineers, technicians, and customer staff.

Required Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess an active Top Secret security clearance
- M.S. or B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (e.g., Mechatronic, Aerospace, Systems Engineering)
- Minimum two (2) years of prior relevant experience
- Hands-on experience with electro-mechanical systems, including building, testing, and troubleshooting prototypes for components such as motors, actuators, and sensors
- Proficiency in building and troubleshooting electronic circuits, working with breadboards, and integrating various electrical components
- Experience or coursework with CAD software for mechanical design and documentation (SolidWorks preferred)
- Proficient with MS Office tools including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Project
- Fundamental engineering skills including mechanics of materials, statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, collaborative team environment balancing diverse project tasks and types
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Working knowledge of common hand and powered tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to travel to temporary assignments (less than 10% travel)
Desired Qualifications:
- Coursework in Finite Element Analysis and Mechanics of Materials
- Experience with engineering data analysis tools such as Matlab and Mathcad
- Passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
- Product development experience using rapid, iterative design and prototyping with frequent integration/test cycles
- Experience designing for and using additive manufacturing
