Software Applications Engineer – IRES Contract
Location: Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL
Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret
Employment Type: Full-Time | Day Shift | On-site (no remote work)
Salary Range: $110,000–$160,000 annually (based on experience, certifications, and education)
About the Role
Are you a hands-on, self-motivated software engineer ready to make a direct impact on national defense systems? Join the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) team supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) at Redstone Arsenal. As a Software Applications Engineer, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing a suite of mission-critical applications in a secure, fast-paced environment. This position offers the opportunity to work across a wide tech stack including Java, Visual Studio, SQL, and cloud platforms (Azure & AWS).
Key Responsibilities
• Provide ongoing support for critical MDA software applications:
o CAFM (Java/Tomcat)
o CDRLvue and Escheduler (ASP.NET, Visual Studio, SQL)
o Empower (Perl scripting, GUI, SQL)
• Troubleshoot and maintain Microsoft IIS, Java/Tomcat environments, and SQL databases
• Manage and enhance application functionality, including Single Sign-On (CAC authentication)
• Support patching and maintenance activities, including late-night windows as needed
• Ensure compliance and security while operating within Azure and AWS environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to resolve conflicts and streamline support
• Work independently while delivering reliable, detail-oriented solutions under minimal supervision
Basic Qualifications
• 5+ years of direct Software Engineering experience
• Proficiency with IIS, Java/Tomcat, SQL, and either Azure or AWS
• Hands-on experience with Single Sign-On (CAC-enabled authentication)
• Active DoD Secret Security Clearance
• Must obtain DoD 8570 Level II Certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ CE) within 3 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using Microsoft Visual Studio for ASP.NET development
• Strong SQL database development and maintenance experience
• Familiarity with Perl scripting and GUI-based internal systems
• Previous experience supporting Department of Defense or federal contracts
