The Center for Outbreak Response and Vaccine Development (CORVD) is seeking a highly experienced and innovative System Analyst III to serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in support of advanced research, surveillance, and public health modeling initiatives. This role requires demonstrated leadership in statistical consultation, advanced Bayesian modeling, and applied public health research. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, collaborative acumen, and a track record of scientific contributions through peer-reviewed publication.

Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for System Analyst III: Pay commensurate with experience.

System Analyst III Responsibilities Include:
- Lead statistical consultation and analysis for complex, high-impact research and surveillance projects involving epidemiologic, medical record, and laboratory datasets.
- Collaborate in the planning, design, and execution of statistical methodology research, with a strong focus on Bayesian inference techniques.
- Contribute to hypothesis generation, rigorous study design, and the development of robust statistical and mathematical models, including model diagnostics and validation.
- Interpret and communicate analytical findings clearly and effectively to scientific and non-scientific audiences; lead preparation of results for peer-reviewed publications and technical reports.
- Evaluate existing analytic approaches and develop innovative statistical methods that address critical public health questions and data challenges.
- Introduce and implement novel statistical techniques, enhancing the scientific rigor and impact of CORVD's data-driven efforts.
- Serve as a senior collaborator and thought partner to researchers and analysts across CDC divisions, contributing to interdisciplinary teams and fostering a culture of innovation and statistical excellence.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
System Analyst III Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
- 10+ years of professional experience in applied statistics in a public health, biomedical research, or epidemiologic setting (or Ph.D. with 7-10+ years' relevant experience).
- Proven expertise in Bayesian statistical modeling, including experience with MCMC, hierarchical models, and Bayesian software (e.g., Stan, JAGS, INLA).
- Strong programming skills in R, Python, or other statistical computing environments.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex research projects and mentoring junior staff or collaborators.
- Significant experience in publishing research in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working within or in partnership with federal agencies such as CDC, NIH, or FDA.
- Familiarity with large-scale surveillance systems or electronic health record datasets.
- Knowledge of infectious disease modeling, vaccine effectiveness studies, or outbreak analytics.
- Expertise in applying statistical methods to time-series, longitudinal, or hierarchical data structures.
