The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), through its Center for Outbreak Response and Vaccine Development (CORVD), is seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Biostatistician / Statistical Scientist - Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide expert consultation and leadership on complex research and surveillance projects. This role will focus on advanced statistical modeling, particularly Bayesian methodologies, to support public health surveillance, outbreak response, and research efforts involving epidemiologic, clinical, and laboratory data.
Requires a NACI Public Trust or the ability to obtain one.
Compensation & Benefits:
Estimated Starting Salary Range for Senior Biostatistician / Statistical Scientist - Subject Matter Expert: Pay commensurate with experience.

Senior Biostatistician / Statistical Scientist - Subject Matter Expert Responsibilities Include:
- Provide expert-level statistical consultation and support for complex epidemiologic and surveillance research projects utilizing medical records, laboratory data, and public health surveillance systems.
- Participate in the planning, design, and development of quantitative methods research, with emphasis on Bayesian statistical methods and other modern inferential approaches.
- Lead efforts in hypothesis generation, study design, and the development and validation of statistical and mathematical models, ensuring accurate representation of real-world public health dynamics.
- Interpret complex analytical results and collaborate with scientific teams to present findings for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals and technical reports.
- Evaluate existing methodologies, extend current techniques, and develop novel statistical approaches to address evolving public health data challenges.
- Introduce and promote innovative statistical tools and frameworks to enhance data-driven decision-making and epidemic modeling.
- Foster strong, interdisciplinary collaborations with internal CDC partners, especially within CORVD, and external stakeholders to align statistical innovation with pressing public health goals.

Senior Biostatistician / Statistical Scientist - Subject Matter Expert Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Bachelor's in Biostatistics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Epidemiology, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience applying advanced statistical methods in a public health, epidemiological, or biomedical research setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in Bayesian statistical modeling, including prior specification, posterior inference, and computational methods (e.g., MCMC, INLA).
- Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R, Python, Stan, or SAS.
- Experience publishing complex statistical analyses in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong background in epidemiologic study design, modeling of infectious diseases or chronic conditions, and analysis of diverse data types (e.g., longitudinal, hierarchical, time-series).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable public health insights.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with federal health agencies such as CDC, NIH, or FDA.
- Familiarity with large-scale surveillance systems or integrated health datasets.
- Knowledge of machine learning techniques as applied in public health modeling.
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative, multidisciplinary scientific teams.
