The MIS Manager will lead data management, system integration, and analytic efforts in support of surveillance and research activities within the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD) at CDC. This senior-level role requires extensive experience managing clinical data pipelines, applying epidemiological principles in analysis, and working with federal and state public health partners. The ideal candidate will bring technical and leadership expertise in cloud-based systems, programming, and public health informatics to oversee a wide range of data modernization and analytics initiatives.

MIS Manager Responsibilities Include:
- Data Management & Analytics
- Validate and clean large-scale clinical and surveillance data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with CDC data standards.
- Perform epidemiological analysis, generate descriptive statistics, and formulate analytic tables to inform public health actions and publications.
- Write and execute SAS and PySpark programs to automate reporting workflows and develop analytic datasets.
- Provide statistical outputs and summaries for CDC data products including websites, dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), and cloud-based data platforms.
- Cloud-Based Data Systems
- Build, manage, and optimize data pipelines using cloud platforms including but not limited to:
- Palantir Foundry (DCIPHER/HHS Protect)
- Microsoft Azure (Databricks, Data Factory, SQL Server)
- Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- SAS Viya, Desktop SAS
- Build, manage, and optimize data pipelines using cloud platforms including but not limited to:
- Posit Cloud/R Studio
- Merge and integrate data across platforms, ensuring seamless data flow, integrity checks, deduplication, and daily reporting for surveillance systems.
- Project Leadership & Documentation
- Oversee processes related to clinical data reporting, including collection (e.g., REDCap), integration, augmentation, quality control, and documentation.
- Develop and maintain project Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), analysis plans, and transition plans to support project continuity and scalability.
- Communicate regularly with NCIRD leadership, internal CDC teams, and federal/state health department partners, maintaining transparency and alignment with agency goals.
- Training, Communication & Travel
- If approved, present findings at national scientific conferences such as the Council for State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Conference, Summer 2025.
- May travel occasionally for team meetings, retreats, or technical consultations, if requested and approved.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
MIS Manager Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:
- Master's degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Informatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 10+ years of experience
OR Ph.D. in a related field with 7-10+ years of experience - Proven expertise in clinical data systems, data integration, and public health informatics
- Advanced programming skills in SAS, PySpark, SQL, and proficiency with cloud-based platforms (Palantir Foundry, Azure, AWS, etc.)
- Strong understanding of epidemiologic methods, surveillance data structures, and health data privacy practices (e.g., HIPAA, FISMA)
- Experience managing cross-functional data teams and engaging with diverse public health stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with federal public health data initiatives, especially within CDC or HHS
- Familiarity with data visualization tools like Power BI, Tableau, Posit Cloud, and open data systems (e.g., data.cdc.gov)
- Project management or informatics certification (e.g., PMP, CPHIMS, CBIP)
- Knowledge of data governance and modern data architecture principles
- Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
